Nintendo’s take on the fighting game genre was typically atypical, but it was with the first sequel, Super Smash Bros. Melee, that the series truly came into its own. In terms of content or production values, Melee still outclasses most games released today. And the actual fighting? The actual fighting was amazing, fast paced, demanding frame precision, and leading to the most vibrant scene in the fighting game community ever. More than a decade after release, Super Smash Bros.
