Super Smash Bros. Melee

Nintendo’s take on the fighting game genre was typically atypical, but it was with the first sequel, Super Smash Bros. Melee, that the series truly came into its own. Melee might be one of the most perfect fighters around- in terms of mainstream appeal or novelty, nothing beats getting to see your favorite Nintendo mascots beating each other up. In terms of content or production values, Melee still outclasses most games released today. And the actual fighting? The actual fighting was amazing, fast paced, demanding frame precision, and leading to the most vibrant scene in the fighting game community ever. More than a decade after release, Super Smash Bros. Melee remains one of the most played and watched fighting games in the world, and in spite of three sequels having been released since, Melee remains the go-to choice for most fans of the series.
