Zelda II: The Adventures of Link
Back in the days, where there was a limited/no save option, it was a doozy and a challenge to really not lose all the experience you acquired. Take Zelda II: The Adventures of Link for example, the game was quite long and if you somehow reset or died in the middle of the game, then you had to start all over from the very beginning. This resulted in a lot of players, leaving their systems on, for days at an end.
