Metal Gear Solid has a non canon ending
When Solid Snake gets captured by Ocelot for interrogation, if the player manages to survive the test, he/she will actually see the canon ending which has Solid Snake escape with Meryl. However if the player looses the test, the canon ending will show Snake and Otacon as the survivors.
