Taking place soon after the events of Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, the game serves as a prequel to Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, with Big Boss returning as the game’s protagonist. Ground Zeroes is the first game to properly feature a more open gameplay structure, although it would interesting for you to know that such a structure was planned since Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater.
