Hot on the heels of announcing some major changes in Towerborne’s launch plans (including an imminent early access release), during Xbox’s day 2 Gamescom stream, developer Stoic Studio shared more gameplay footage and details for the upcoming co-op 2.5D action RPG.

As you would expect, the footage showcases plenty of combat, an area where Towerborne is looking quite promising, with proceedings being quick and combo-focused. With this being a co-op experience, there’s plenty of room for chaos as well, which includes being able to steal your teammates’ kills, if that’s how you wish to approach things.

The gameplay footage also showcases a boss fight to finish off the level, with the gigantic, pangolin-like monstrosity known as the Pangojira dishing out a variety of hard-hitting attacks, from throwing giant rocks to summoning smaller foes that burrow their way out of the ground to pounding into the ground and sending out shockwaves.

Specific, new mechanics are also detailed, such as every boss having a break bar under their health, which, when depleted fully with damage, temporarily stuns the boss, allowing you to get in a good deal of damage. Meanwhile, successfully landing hits and combos will also fill up your weapon meter, which in turn will let you unleash special skills when filled up.

As for how healing works, players will be respawned by their Umbra companions automatically, though you will only have a limited number of respawns across your entire squad, after which downed players will only be revivable by other players- which, as you can imagine, can take up time and leave you vulnerable to attacks.

Check out the gameplay footage in the timestamped video below.

Towerborne will release in early access for PC on September 10, before coming to Xbox Series X/S at a later date. In 2025, the game will launch in full for both platforms, and will be free-to-play
