Ubisoft: We Have Other Surprises For Nintendo NX That We Will Announce Later

What could they be?!?

Ubisoft haven’t made much of a secret of the fact that they are actually fairly excited and on board with the NX, Nintendo’s upcoming enigmatic new system that it increasingly seems will be a handheld and console hybrid. It makes sense- the company has always been at the forefront of supporting new technologies, including Nintendo’s own DS, Wii, Wii U, and 3DS, and they’ve ended up doing very well each time (even on Wii U, where they were one of the most successful third party publishers).

So their excitement for the NX is at least founded, and has a base. Now, in an interview with GamesIndustry.biz, Ubisoft’s head of EMEA Alain Corre expressed his enthusiasm for Nintendo’s new machine, and its potential implications for the market, and also hinted that Just Dance won’t be the only game the publisher brings to the system.

“We announced that we’re developing Just Dance for NX and we have other surprises that we will announce later, but we also believe Nintendo has the power to reinvent the way families are playing,” Corre said. “Nintendo is a fantastic powerhouse of brands that are really cherished by a lot of fans and families… I am still impressed by the reoccurrence of success and appetite even today for the Nintendo franchises on the current system.”

Of course, it remains to be seen to what capacity the NX will be supported by Ubisoft- it’s entirely possible it becomes a dumping ground for more casual and family oriented fare, instead of the kind of high end AAA support that many are honestly expecting and would rather accept.

The Nintendo NX is due to be fully announced and revealed come September, so we should know soon enough either way.
