Unreal Engine 4 Update Adds Official Nintendo Switch Support

Third party support when?

Posted By | On 16th, Feb. 2017

It looks like Epic Games wasn’t kidding when it said that the Unreal Engine 4 will support the Nintendo Switch. Update 4.15 for Unreal Engine has now added official Nintendo Switch support to the engine. This is an important step in Nintendo getting more third party support for the Switch than they did with the Wii U, which famously didn’t support most of the current engines on the market, leading to a paucity of third party development on the system.

With Unreal Engine 4 now supporting Switch, that’s one less hurdle for third parties looking to support Nintendo’s newest system. Unreal Engine 4 is widely used by third parties around the world, including in Japan, which is where it looks like most of the Switch’s third party games will come from.

Presuming the Switch sells well enough, Unreal Engine 4 support will also hopefully cause western developers to look into seriously supporting the platform, too.
