Earlier today the Pikmin 3 commercial made its way to YouTube and home televisions. Pikmin, arguably Nintendo’s most beloved GameCube title, was initially released in 2001 with the follow up, Pikmin 2, coming out in 2004.
In 2007 Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto began to discuss the possibilities of a new Pikmin game somewhere down the line stating, “I certainly don’t think we’ve seen the last of Pikmin. I definitely would like to do something with them, and I think the Wii interface in particular is very well suited to that franchise.”
It seems Miyamoto wasn’t bluffing, although Nintendo opted to wait for the newer, sleeker Wii U to play around with all of the possibilities contained within Pikmin’s game design. Reports are that the game play in Pikmin 3 will continue off of the fundamental systems laid down in the first two of the series, but will incorporate some of the Wii’s signature motion-based game play features.
Pikmin 3 is slated for release August 4th 2013 in the US.
