WildStar ups the ante in MMO combat.

In this latest video we are given a look at the ability mechanics of the upcoming sci-fi MMORPG, WildStar. Specifically, the video shows us how we as players will be able to control what our characters do in the game.

Combat is going to be the most utilized element of WildStar, so the developers wanted to make sure that there was an emphasis on combat being fun. In this video, we take a look at how WildStar’s developers tried to make the way players interact with game controls unique and fun when applied to the game’s combat system.

First we are walked through the standard combat formula, which is generally referred to as Instant, Cast time, Channel. You hit your button, and wait for your ability to work. In WildStar, the emphasis was placed on the ability to adapt to ever changing situations. This was done by making cast and channeling mobile – that is, you can move around and do different things while waiting for a spell or ability to hit, or time it to go off where and when you want.

There is also the addition a of a reactive combat situation – certain moves that can only be performed in specific circumstances, such as when an enemy has been hit and is vulnerable.

All in all, from the looks of this video, WildStar looks to have a very promising combat system, that promises to take the MMO community by storm.
