World War Z Will Have Destructibe Objects, Procedural Behavior, and Up To 1,000 Zombies on Screen at Once

That’s a lot of zombies.

World War Z was originally announced at The Game Awards last year, and we haven’t heard or seen more of it since. However, now, thanks to an information blowout on the game courtesy of OPM, we have some more idea about what to expect from the game—and what we might expect sounds pretty awesome, guys, not gonna lie.

So, for starters, Saber Interactive CEO Matthew Karch revealed that the game would have as many as a thousand zombies on screen at once—which is already hugely impressive to begin with, but said zombies won’t just stand around and wait for you to hack them took death. They will be, much like in the movie, fast moving, interacting with each other and the environment to lead to some truly emergent gameplay possibilities.

That emergence in gameplay will also come from the environment (all of which is destructible), as well as procedural behavior, so that no two gameplay sessions ever feel alike. It all sounds good—actually in many ways, it sounds like the kind of thing that Sony’s Days Gone is aiming for. It will be interesting to see which of the two end up pulling it off better.

World War Z is slated for PS4, Xbox One, and PC some time this year. You can check out the full story for the game and get more information in Official PlayStation Magazine’s April issue. You can subscribe to the latest Official PlayStation Magazine over here.
