Lootboxes to get The Rock's trunks...

WWE 2K18

Lootboxes have become the new scourge of the industry, providing customers the option to pay through their nose to have the chance to maybe get something they might like. Combining the RNG nature of mobile pay-to-win games with egregious monetization, they represent the current worst practices of the industry.

So of course, every major game is moving towards having them- one of them will be WWE 2K18 will be including them, too- as NeoGAF pointed out, this $60 game will let you spend money to get coveted items like The Rock’s trunks. This is what video games have become in 2017.

Of course, 2K was also behind the aggressive monetization in NBA 2K18 this year- so maybe it should not come as such a surprise that WWE 2K18 will have them too. Hopefully people make enough of a ruckus about this for it to stop being a problem going forward. WWE 2K18 will release on Xbox One, PS4, and later in the year, on Nintendo Switch as well.
