Xbox Executive Responds To Sony’s Jim Ryan’s Comments About Backward Compatibility

He disagrees.

Yesterday, Sony’s Jim Ryan made some rather arrogant comments about backward compatibility on consoles. The comments stand as especially pertinent, because rival Xbox has made backward compatibility a defining feature for the Xbox One, while the PS4 conspicuously lacks this functionality.

So speaking on Twitter in response to Ryan’s comments, Mike Ybarra, the Corporate Vice President of Xbox, shared his thoughts on the matter. “Disagree. We want gamers to play the best games of the past, current, and future. It’s what gamers have asked for,” he said.

Of course, given the success of backward compatibility on Xbox One, especially with the sales surges that games like Red Dead Redemption and Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 have seen via re-release on the service, it’s hard to argue with that stance- not that I understand why anyone would want to argue against such a pro-consumer additive feature in the first place. But hey, that’s console wars for you.
