With two dozen studios under its best, Microsoft’s first party portfolio has quickly become a force to be reckoned with, and seeing as it counts the likes of Bethesda, id Software, Ninja Theory, Obsidian Entertainment, and many more among those first party studios, it’s fair to say that the future looks bright for exclusive content on Xbox. That said, Microsoft still has other irons in the fire that are commented from developers that don’t necessarily fall under that umbrella.
In an article recently published by Windows Central’s Jez Corden, who has been a credible Microsoft insider in the past, he states that Microsoft’s Xbox Global Publishing wing is set to publish a game being developed by a “prominent” AAA third party developer, and that it will be set in “an ambitious connected world.” That, of course, sounds like a shared world, multiplayer-centric affair, but Corden himself hasn’t elaborated on what it means, so it’s hard to be sure right now. He does say that this game is going to be revealed either this year or next year.
Meanwhile, Corden also goes on to say that on top of this, at least three “high caliber” Xbox publishing partners are currently in the process of prototyping their games. Interestingly enough, none of these are the rumoured game that Hideo Kojima has allegedly partnered for Microsoft with.
As is the case with any unconfirmed report, take this with a grain of salt for now, though as mentioned earlier, Corden has proven himself to be a reliable source of insider information in the past. Either way, we’ll keep you updated on any new details that come our way, so stay tuned.
