Xenoblade Chronicles X looks stunning- it’s one of the most exciting games on the horizon, and one of the most promising JRPGs, as well as being one of the most ambitious Wii U titles currently planned. As a sequel to 2012’s cult hit Wii exclusive Xenoblade Chronicles, it also carries a weight of expectations with it.

One of the most exciting things about the game, apart from its stunning open world, is its inclusion of mechs, which promises an exciting and spontaneous new method of traversal. Speaking on Twitter, the game’s director, Tetsuya Takahashi, talked more about the concept behind them.

“Mr. Yanase is a well-known designer that has worked on Gundam 00 among other things,” Takahashi tweeted. “The concept for the Dolls in this project was that one single convertible frame be able to transform into several vehicles, so I asked for his help, knowing that he would be able to realize that [concept]. If I recall correctly, I asked for his help around the time that Kotobukiya announced its new plastic model ‘Frame Arms Series’.”

Essentially, it sounds like a single mech in game may be able to take on multiple forms, which would probably vary according to terrain, or where you are in the game.

It sounds like another exciting addition to a very exciting game.
