Cloudgine Might Be Microsoft’s Secret Xbox One Sauce

The power of the cloud… for real this time.

It’s almost become a running gag at this point- the Xbox One, which is weaker hardware than the PS4, is supposed to get some sort of secret boost to its power that puts it beyond the competition. It’s been a multitude of things since the system’s reveal- the power of the Cloud, eSRAM, DirectX 12, the decoupling of Kinect, you name it. It’s become a joke at this point.

But it seems like at this E3, Microsoft may actually be working to make good on this initial promise of ‘secret sauce’ for the Xbox One. And delivering this extra power will be… the cloud.

Developer Tech reports that a company called Cloudgine will play a part in Microsoft’s E3 conference this year. On their website they describe their technology as “delivering rendering and processing power from the cloud, allowing game developers to define new ground-breaking online gaming mechanics”.

If Microsoft does in fact manage to actually enhance the Xbox One with the cloud, there will still remain the question of how they plan to implement their cloud based solution evenly, in a world where proper broadband penetration remains too low for such a solution to be viable, a problem that Sony is also facing with its PS Now implementation.

You sound upset that PS4 has more powerful hardware, more developer support, and is outselling Xbox by ~3 million. Keep shilling and crying while everyone else ignores you and buys more PS4s.

PS4 has the superior version of all console AAA multiplats, The Order, Driveclub, MLB 14: The Show, Deep Down, Uncharted 4, TLOU Remake, more dev support including indies, free to play games and MMOs like FFXIV and Warframe, and unannounced 1st party games (Gran Turismo, God of War, Media Molecule, Quantic Dream, etc.) Titanfall 2 and future 3rd party games will almost certainly be on PS4. All of Sony’s 1st parties during the PS3 years are still active and working on PS4 games.

Recently Sony has filed trademarks or had leaks for no less than 6 games. Entwined, Kill Strain, Blood Borne, Dark Chronicles, Project Beast and Guns Up. Expect a big E3 reveal of new games.

PS4 games not on Xbox One: Killzone, inFamous Second Son, Dynasty Warriors 8, Final Fantasy XIV, Warframe, DC Universe, Yakuza Isshin, MLB 14 The Show, Bound by Flame, Injustice Gods Among Us, Knack, Natural Doctorine, and a ton of indies including Resogun

Sony has more 1st party studios actually working on PS4 games (not mobile or cloud or whatever) and 1st party franchises.

PS4 will have the graphics advantage the entire gen. PS4 hardware and software will outsell Xbox globally the entire gen. PS4 will have more dev support and more 1st party games the entire gen. Sony still has a large number of 1st party studios and they’re all working on PS4 games. PS4 will make a net profit, Sony won’t go bankrupt. I’m constantly right, as usual.

Both consoles will have good exclusive games but it’s obvious PS4 is more powerful and will sell more this gen.

Digital Foundry proves that PS4 multiplat games consistently run at higher res and/or framerate.

Some use cherry picked screenshots from where a streamed texture was 0.01 seconds from fully loading and try to use it as false proof PS4 has worse textures. This is wrong and deceptive. Hard drive speed is the main issue in texture streaming load times. Installing a SSD in PS4 decreases texture streaming times dramatically.

And don’t even start with the delusional “sharp popping textures” from the hideous upscaling sharpness filter that they ended up removing. The crushed blacks bug is still there, which is easy to replicate on PS4 or PC by turning up your display contrast settings.

Xbox One AAA multiplats (Watch Dogs, Witcher 3, CoD: Advanced Warfare) will run 720-900p for the lifetime of the system.

PS4 could run Ryse, Forza, Dead Rising 3, or any Xbox exclusive at higher res/framerate/effects, as it has more powerful hardware.

    Powah of the butt lol

I don’t understand why people cant get the point of how this works. its just like streaming only difference is that this is using dedicated servers hence AZURE. you do not need a extremely high connection to do this. most of the US ISP are giving people 60-100mbs already which is more than enough to stream. the cloud is not a graphics enhancer either, its soul purpose is to make worlds in real-time instead of having them all processed locally. ESRAM is what’s going to help with this.

Tell me another story about DX12 and clouds, microsoft!

  • ME3X12

This is so simple only Sony Ponies become Helen Keller on this subject. Look all they do is make the game to be online only whoopie doo we have plenty of games that are online only. So anyone bu bu bu about the people with no online well sorry it’s a dog eat world then they just don’t buy the game. So they make the game and put right on the box online connection required. Then BAM you get this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JJ44hEr5DFE X1 will have the most graphically advanced games on the planet in a few years and will be making POS4 look like Atari 2600

    • Johnny

Pretty easy to understand they just refuse to because they are to wrapped in mine is more powerful than yours.

    • ps4lol

PS4’s hardware is more powerful for games performance.
