Don’t Read Too Much Into Scalebound Revival Rumors, Says Insider

Scalebound remains dead.

Earlier today, we reported that Microsoft had renewed the trademark for Scalebound, the action RPG that had been under development by Platinum Games, exclusively for the PC and Xbox One, before its high profile cancellation earlier this year that created an immense blowback and backlash.

The renewal was also accompanied by a rumor from an alleged insider that Microsoft had revived development of the game internally- the rumor was entirely unsubstantiated, so of course, we didn’t report on it. And that seems to have been the right call, because Windows Central, the outlet known for having a wonderful track record of Microsoft related insider leaks, has confirmed that that rumor is bogus- Scalebound is not under development at any Microsoft affiliated studio. The game remains dead.

Of course, anyone sensible enough knew better than to put stock in that rumor. As great as Scalebound seemed, it looks like we will have to reconcile ourselves with the fact that it is truly never coming to fruition. Of course, Microsoft did renew the trademark- that factually did happen. But that was probably a routine, commonplace legal trademark protection application. The reports of the game being under development again? Those were bunk. Don’t pay attention to those.

In other words, “if we here at Gamingbolt, had done our due diligence in reporting, we never would have written the first article filled with speculation of the game being renewed. We knew we were deliberately misleading our readers, but in the end, it’s all about the clicks man…and we WANTED those clicks”.

    • Why would they protect the trademark scalebound though.. maybe they want to make ‘Scalebound’ movies? Or merchandise like t-shirts and caps n stuff lol xD

I read that it is a normal thing to renew trademarks before they expire.

    • Yeah it is a routine thing companies do.. but for scalebound it doesn’t make sense given that the game is supposedly canceled.

Only reason i can think of is that MS is afraid Sony will buy the Scalebound trademark and release it as a PS4 exclusive!!! XD

No one already was, except for desperate Shitbox fanboys and liars.

  • Luke Skywalker

Well that’s a given, but at the end of the day anything can happen.
From what I’ve seen about the game as it was shown, the concept was ok but the gameplay seemed lacking to me as if it needed some depth. If by chance they’re going to revive it I hope they make sure it’s done well and not repetitive clump of boredom.

The E3 presentation of the game was a bit dull for something promising dragons and fire, i hope it comes someday but till then plssss come out with Ryse 2.

    • Probably on the Scorpio.. no more new games for xbox one.

Untill MS stops supporting the xbox one, there won’t be scorpio exclusives.

It’s a catch 22.. MS needs the scorpio to sell well in order to make great games. But they need great games in the first place to sell the Scorpio.

U can’t sell the scorpio if it doesn’t have good games.. but MS wont invest in new games unless the Scorpio sells well :/..

You forgot 3rd party mulitiplatform games – those will look best on Scorpio. I am sure some people will want the best console version available, that’s Scorpio’s target audience.

    • Doesnt matter if they look the best on the scorpio.

Im not buying the same games i have on my PS4 Pro again on the Scorpio..

I’m talking non-released future multiplatform games like Assassins Creed, Destiny 2, Battlefront 2, CoDww2, The Crew 2, Project Cars 2… that stuff

    • I will buy them for my PS4 Pro.

You talk as if the scorpio is gonna be 200% better than the PS4 Pro.. 40% at best. That’s not enough of a leap to justify buying the Scorpio.

The PS4 Pro can do Destiny 2, at 4k/30fps and the Scorpio will have the same version.

There isn’t that much of a difference between Scorpio’s “native 4k” and Sony’s 4k upscale rendering checkerboard system..

    • hardseppo

By your logic you shouldn’t have bought a PS4 Pro, because the leap is almost the same. PS4 2TF – Ps4 Pro 4TF – Scorpio 6TF.

AND don’t forget – Scorpio has more RAM as well…

At the moment I buy my multiplats on PS4 Pro, when Scorpio comes, I’ll buy them there. And checkerboarding and 4K is not the same thing. One is a compromise, the other the real deal.

But that’s the advantage if you go multi – pick the best from each system and enjoy it all and ignore the fanboys 😉

    • A lot of people are pressuring others into confirming the Scorpio is already the best console and stuff.. but it’s not even out yet. This makes me very suspicious.

If the Scorpio was out and a couple of games were reviewed on it, we could have a debate of which console is better.. but at this point there is no point in comparing the PS4 and Scorpio.

Untill then PS4 is prince.. king and emperor! 😉

And the fact that the price hasnt even been announced yet.
