Galak-Z Targeting 60 fps on the PS4, Dev Explains Why They Don’t Have Anything Planned For Xbox One

Galak-Z: The Dimensional is an upcoming indie shooter for the PlayStation 4. Developed by 17-BIT, the game was first announced during Sony’s press conference at E3 last year. We got in touch with CEO Jake Kazdal to talk how the game is shaping up on the PlayStation 4.

First of all, the developers are targeting to run the game at 1080P and 60 fps on the PlayStation 4. “Most likely. We’re actually asking a lot of the hardware as it is, but I love 60fps games!,” Jake confirmed to GamingBolt.

During our interview we also asked Jake the reason behind not developing Galak-Z for the Xbox One.

“Sony has been very proactive about securing amazing indie talent, and it’s a huge part of their push for PS4. They confirmed Unity support for PS4 long before Microsoft did, so we approached them first, and it’s just been fantastic ever since, no looking back,” he said.

We also asked whether they had any plans to develop any games for the Xbox One in the future given the recent success of the console and a revamp of Microsoft’s policies with ID@Xbox to which he replied:

“Right now our relationship with Sony is going very well, it’s probably too early to say just yet, but I assume we’ll continue with them for our future projects. We don’t have anything planned for Xbox at this time,” he revealed.

    I guess Skulls of Shogun sales didn’t impress them enough?

    This is, honestly, one of a few “indie” games I was jelly about only appearing on PS4. Was hoping for a late XBL arrival, but I guess not. Maybe I’ll DL it when I eventually get a PS4 somewhere down the road. I’m sure it will be a good game (based on what I’ve seen and how much I enjoyed their last game)

      From what I’ve read elsewhere (interviews with 17-BIT) Microsoft didn’t treat them very well at all, on X360 or Windows 8, so they were keen to go elsewhere. I wouldn’t write off it going multi-plat down the road, though – they might just be working on one platform at a time. It deffo wouldn’t make any sense to them to limit their audience. That said, given the different pitches of the PS4 and XB1, we may well see indie sales stronger on PS4 as indie-favouring gamers are more likely to pick it up. I still reckon there’s a decent chance there’ll be enough XB1 sales to entice them to bring it over 🙂

    REALLY! It’s a Top View Shooter…… You can probably hit 120fps, don’t think it would take much.

      The camera perspective doesn’t have a huge impact (unless you go crazy wide-angle) on the actual rendering required for the world, and no impact at all on the physics and AI. Until we know more about the game, it’s best not to judge too hastily.

    • Rendering full horizon does have implications including how to handle physics, AI, and animation. When looking at the sceen top down, handling LOD’s, and culling things not in the scene should be much easier.

    Wow lol. I’m glad to hear about developers who doesn’t fear to say what they feel. This is not the first indie who thinks that way, also, some PC developers making their games on PS4 thinks the same about the xbone.

    Looks like crap, but that’s the $0N¥ PauperStation Foul we all know as 60fps for such an ugly top down shooter is a PoS.
