Google Is Working on a Game Streaming Service, and Possibly on a Console and Controller

The service is apparently codenamed Yeti.

The really surprising thing about the gaming industry is that tech giants like Apple, Amazon, and Google have managed to largely stay out of it. Oh, sure, Amazon is starting to dip their toes into the waters, with their purchase of Double Helix and Twitch, as well as the Lumberyard Engine, and Apple and Google run the App Store and Google Play respectively- but there’s been no concerted investment or effort from any of them.

However, that may be about to change, at least for Google- according to a report from The Information, Google is currently working on a brand new game streaming service. The service is going to either work with Google’s existing ChromeCast, or, more interestingly, a new console, with its own controller, that is currently being prototyped at Google.

This sounds hugely interesting- and if Google can get this going, it could be hugely beneficial to the current state of the gaming market. Of course, Google tests and prototypes a lot of things, but nonetheless, at the very least, it is good to see that they are taking gaming seriously.
