Greenberg On X1 Exclusives: Excited About Tomb Raider’s Progress, Ori & ScreamRide Coming Along Well

The first half of 2015 is looking a tad dull for Xbox One but the second half is simply going to be amazing.

Rise of the Tomb Raider

Microsoft’s Aaron Greenberg who leads the games marketing team across 1st & 3rd Party at Xbox One often takes to Twitter to answer fan questions and queries. Recently he took to Twitter again to update Xbox One players and fans on the progress on some of the upcoming Xbox One exclusives including the big one, Rise of the Tomb Raider.

It’s often suggested that the Xbox One does not have that many exclusives as the PlayStation 4 in 2015, which is true to a certain extent. Although how that translates into quality and innovation is a different story. But one fan had a similar concern when he asked Greenberg about the exclusive games for the first half of 2015.  Greenberg stated that Ori and the Blind Forest and ScreamRide are a couple exclusives coming next month and they are both coming along really well. This also possibly confirms that Microsoft does not have any major exclusive for the first half of the year which is a tad disappointing.

But the Xbox One’s other half is looking amazing. Microsoft have Forza Motorsport 6, Fable Legends and Halo 5: Guardians. But perhaps the biggest one is Rise of the Tomb Raider, the result of a timed exclusivity deal between Square Enix and Microsoft. Greenberg stated that they are excited by the progress of the game and are honored to work with a world class team in Crystal Dynamics. The 2013’s reboot was a cracking success for Square Enix and given the sequel’s Siberian setting, Rise of the Tomb Raider is one of the major titles that may push up the Xbox One sales in the all important holiday season.

Well looks like another drought of AAA games in the first part of the year for the bone just like last yea tsk tsk M$

    • Ian Upthagrove

AAA exclusives yes, but not AAA games.

    • Psionicinversion

better than AAA films like the order

    • GotNews4Ya

Glad you have played it.. Oh wait.. it isn’t out yet.. I’m guessing you loved Ryse: Son of Rome.. because I beat that in less than 4 hrs.. but unlike you.. I enjoyed it… even though it was short. I wish it was longer.. the MP was complete garbage.. and added nothing to the game, In my opinion.. also.. the DLC Season Pass was a cash grab.. didn’t announce what you would get.. and only got some silly MP crap that meant nothing and was not fun to play.

    • True_Fan

Its always funny seeing people say that, when the last ps4 exclusive that mattered was a ps3 game in the last of us. Sony didn’t give a crap about lbp3, driveclub, or guilty gear.

    • corvusmd

It’s hard to make this argument seem important to someone that owns both consoles. I can see for myself the entire situation, and yes PS4 has two AAA exclusives within a month starting in late Feb…but they haven’t had a worthwhile exclusive since June (although a TLoU wasn’t worth buying again). I have the option of playing any exclusive on any system, and honestly I doubt I’ll have time for order and/or bloodborne….so the point is really mute.

After all is said and done, this year there is only 1 PS4 exclusive that is a must have for me (UC4), and X1 has 6-8. If I have time, I MIGHT get Bloodborne, but that would mean I would have to finish all the games I’m still catching up on, and beat FF Type 0, Hardline, and Darksouls 2 before Batman AK drops….so It seems unlikely.

    • GotNews4Ya

There is no games releasing for the Xbox One within the time frame for the Order.. So.. why would you have “No Time for the Order or Bloodborne” Let me guess.. you are stoked for Scream Ride and Ori.. and those will almost definitely take up all of your time until September.. for the next Forza.. right? … If Microsoft clearly has barely any games releasing early this year.. You have a lot of time.. and not getting games for “both systems” when they come available.. makes you just as much of a fanboy as someone with one console..

    • You Are Flat Out Wrong

Meanwhile on PS4. Five hours long games.

  • Kinjo42

Well if Microsoft would invest in a few more first party devs they wouldn’t have to worry about having exclusives that can compete with Uncharted and they’d be able to have AAA content at least once every 2 months. If Xbox fans are satisfied with the way things are, by all means feel free to enjoy your choice.

    • corvusmd

They have been…in the last year or two they have started 6 new first party studios that are all working on games that we don’t know what they are yet. Although we do know that one of the new studios is making a sequel to a “beloved” RTS series…so probably Halo Wars 2 or Age of Empires or something.

These are all X1 first party studios (not including companies like Undead Lab that just have exclusive contracts with MS). The ones with asterisks are ones that are studios working on X1 games that haven’t released anything yet (and all of those studios except Black Tusk and Decisive games are supposedly making games that will support HoloLens….come on Ironman open world game and CSI style game):

      343 Industries
      Decisive Games*
      FIT*
      (FUN)ction Studios *
      Good Science Studio *
      Kids and Lifestyle Entertainment
      Leap Experience Pioneers *
      Np Studios
      Platform Next Studios*
      Microsoft Garage
      Microsoft Studios
      Team Dakota
      SOTA
      Turn 10 Studios
      Twisted Pixel Games
      Launchworks
      Lionhead Studios
      Lift London
      Rare Ltd.
      Soho Productions
      Press Play
      Mojang
      BigPark
      Black Tusk Studios*

    • Kinjo42

They have these studios, but they seem to be waiting until October and November to release 2 or 3 AAA games and nothing else for the rest of the year except for niche indies and multiplatform games. Why do you suppose that is corvusmd?

    • corvusmd

You’re actually wrong on all accounts. They are releasing more than double that in AAA exclusives, and by all accounts the rumors are saying that QB may release in June, Forza 6 will be in August/September.

The thing is that with no proof whatsoever, you’re assuming things about X1/MS that are just about the way you WANT things to be. You’re clearly just a fanboy and seeing what you want to see. It’s hard to take you seriously

    • Kinjo42

You completely made up that entire statement didn’t you?

    • GotNews4Ya

You also have no proof in your comment either.. both of you are arguing based off of “rumors” and no set release dates for anything.. Sigh.. Quantum Break won’t release in 2015. They just started hiring actors.. Common now..

    • JerkDaNERD7

Fact is NO ONE knows exactly what Microsoft is doing. The fact is they have many titles. They might do another E3 2014 where they announced titles we knew nothing about i’ts launch date or confirmed it even existed (Halo: MCC and Horizon 2). Point is most of you are asking way too much from a console manufacture as if it’s ever normal to launch more than one new IP. What world you live in that ever exists?! So Xbox owners should be glad that there are many exclusives titles taking advantage of XOne.

    • GotNews4Ya

Some of those developers are Mobile game devs.. like (Fun)action Studios and Good Science Studio.. They are their Mobile game developer division..

    • brianc6234

Microsoft is horrible when it comes to first party developers. They’re clueless. Look at what they did a couple years ago. They even let Bungie leave. Not a very smart company really.

    • corvusmd

Bungie wasn’t 1st Party, but the thing is that Sony isn’t much better, esp lately….so far all PS4 exclusives have been disappointing and the only exclusive on PS4 this year that looks promising is UC4 that doesn’t come until the end of the year.

    • GotNews4Ya

That’s just your opinion though.. Not shared by everyone.. You have to start adding “In my opinion” to your statements, because you aren’t the end all, know all for everything gaming.. Sorry to break it to you.

  • RunStopGo

It’s not bigger than Halo 5, that is silly.

  • corvusmd

So here’s the thing, people keep trying to hit MS for having a drought in the early year, but this is pretty much just fanboy PR talk. Why honestly would a AAA drought in the first three months of the year be worse than a drought in the last three months? Once again fanboys are just picking and choosing and tweaking their arguments to favor their console. The reason that PS4-only gamers are acting like this is a big deal is because they have been in an exclusive drought since last September.

It’s the exact same thing until late Feb for PS4…and really all it has is Order and Bloodborne (and Order looks to be a flop according to most previews, and I’ll only get Bloodborne if I have a drought of other games). Now the thing is that during this time MS also has some indie style games and most importantly, all the best games at this time are multi-plat. If you own an X1, you can be playing Dying light, Battlefield, Ori, Screamride, Blue Estate, Pneumia, FF Type 0, and Dark Souls 2….not to mention all the exclusives for X1 since last year and the Multi-plats.

Basically what I am saying is that the only people “worried” about this are PS4-Only players….no X1 gamer is really worried. As someone that owns all the systems, I’ll spend all year mostly playing my X1, I will probably only be playing my PS4 when UC4 comes out. If X1 is also so stacked at the end of the year like it was last year….then next year won’t be an issue either because in the early part of next year I’ll still be playing catch up again.

Ultimately if PS4 has 1-3 exclusive games worth playing (with none in the last 6 months) and X1 has 6-8 exclusive games worth playing (with another 3 in the last 6 months and several other multi-plats)…why would this mean that PS4 is better off?

    • Psionicinversion

      because fanboys are blind

    • Kinjo42

“Ultimately if PS4 has 1-3 exclusive games worth playing (with none in
the last 6 months) and X1 has 6-8 exclusive games worth playing”

This is purely your subjective opinion. Just say that the PS4 doesn’t have the exclusives that you want to play. Making a broad comment like the PS4 only has 1-3 exclusives worth playing just makes you seem like you prefer the Xbox One any way, so why bother making such a comment?

    • corvusmd

It’s a hypothetical question showing that being worried about WHEN the exclusives drop, IS NOT more important as to which games you want to play.

    • jb227

It’s a hypothetical question w/ its parameters skewed directly towards your own personal tastes, so its not really an actual hypothetical question at all. Its weird to harp on Sony not having many exclusives for the holidays while simultaneously saying that its not an issue when it happens in another camp. You also mention the indies coming on Xbox as a way to keep playing, but you completely neglect that cavalcade of indies releasing continuously on the PS4. Also Funny that you claim “Once again fanboys are just picking and choosing and tweaking their arguments to favor their console.” and then go on to do exactly that yourself. It’s easy to (try to) prove a point when you are skewing everything you say to service your argument. Where exactly are you getting those ‘1-3’ exclusives for Sony vs. ‘6-8’ exclusives for MS anyway? The only truly reliable data is actual numbers & if you look at them then you see that the PS4 simply has more games. You can spin it anyway you like, you can try to throw in the ‘AAA vs. Indie’ argument or the ‘console exclusive vs. true exclusive’ argument or any other thing you’d like to, but at the end of the day the numbers are in Sony’s favor. A lot of that content might not hit every person’s own interests, but availability is the whole point here. Its up to the gamer to decide which content they like the best so its perfectly reasonable for someone to pick MS but a drought is a drought. Doesn’t matter what timeframe it hits, unless you do all of your gaming on the holidays and completely abstain for the rest of the year.

The Xbox One exclusive library has been nothing but lies and underdeliverence.

      Sunset Overdrive
      Forza Horizon 2
      Halo Master Chief Collection
      Quantum Break
      Fable Legends

Few console exclusives (Xbone/PC) games such as Ryse, Dead Rising 3, and Project Spark.

The PS4 has more exclusives and Sony’s exclusives are selling better while Microsoft’s exclusives are flopping.

People are fed up with Microsoft’s LIES and timed exclusive money hatting deals. People are also fed up with Kinect trash, Forza and Halo milking, and lack of new IPs.

      Accept the facts fanboys.

    • kma99

Wow you purposely left off alot of games for the xbox while adding the same baseball game on their twice lol. You have serious issues.

    • John Doe

Ooooooooh look everyone! An Xbox fanboy thinks I left out Xbone exclusives even though I even gave links and proof. LOL

Xbox fanboys don’t like lower budget indies so I left out all but the most higher profile games.

So you think I should’ve left out MLB15 The Show? So I guess that means I can cross off Forza 6, right?

      LOL @ Xbox fanboys !

    • Psionicinversion

Deepdown lmao that might be out by 2017 remember theyve got to make the graphics so damn advanced it lasts for 15 years lmfao 2 years and itll be dead,… no wait 6 months

    • kma99

Cross it out why add 2 of the same game? You’re the one saddle riding sony. Now while you’re at it please dont omit the games you left off the xbox just to make sony look good

    • Psionicinversion

ah yes the tomorrow children where 80% of what you see is blurred out because the PS4 cant handle it otherwise. Its a pointless game. How can you build massive structures when you cant even see what the f youve built…. lets see you damage control that one derp

    • You Are Flat Out Wrong

Wow. All those also on PC Games. Nice list, derp :^)

  • brianc6234

It would be foolish for a third party to give an exclusive to the weaker, lowing selling console. If anything they should give Sony exclusives. Is Microsoft going to pay $100 million to get exclusives?

    • corvusmd

Please stop proving how little you know. Just take off the fanboy goggles and let it go.

    • GotNews4Ya

The irony in this statement.. It’s like the Pot calling the Kettle Black folks.. Speaking of.. That freaking pot is racists af.

    • Psionicinversion

yeah becuase PS4 is so much stronger that struggles with framerates at 1080p on multis because sony are scared about not keeping there 1080p promise

    • Toni D

Like that puny 800p, 24fps, downgraded, 5 hour long quick time event-exclusive thats coming to PS4 next week?

    • kreator

      LMAO

    • GotNews4Ya

It’s not 800p.. It’s not 24 FPS.. and its not 5 hrs long.. It’s 5 hrs long if you rush through the game trying to beat it as fast as possible.. but that’s great that people only cling to the “5 hrs part”. That is literally bum rushing through the game.. which is unfortunate.. A game like this is about the story.. and it will be great.. and for some reason you will be sick with dismay.. because a game on a competing system is selling well.. But you know what.. it could only sell to HALF the PS4 owners.. and still sell more copies than their are Xbox One’s in homes.. isn’t that awesome?

    • Toni D

      How’s that helping your argument?
You know Xbox One get more software sold than PS4 right?

    • GotNews4Ya

lol.. This isn’t true by no means.. It might sell more copies in the USA.. but it doesn’t sell more copies worldwide. Plus who really cares? I don’t.. It doesn’t line my pockets with Gold. Neither does it yours.. but you talk crap about a game you won’t even play.. so you don’t really have a true perspective.. you are purely speculating.

  • John Doe

Xbox fanboy damage control in the house.

    • bardock5151

Go check out the unprecedented damage control over at dualshockers. It’s pathetic watching you fools writhe around trying to hide the flaws in your new movie.

    • Psionicinversion

2 hours of cutscenes and 3 hours of gameplay lmao how crap is that. Sure its longer if you search for everything and read everything but its all useless crud just to get stupid trophies, and the gameplay is longer on hardest difficulty levels if you suck at shooting and die alot but damn thats short

  • xbox1rules23

droughts always happen. it was probably smart for sony to have games in first half when not many AAA games are out. MS had a strong fall/holiday season. sony seems to have a weak 2015 fall unless they announce something. weak outside of uncharted 4. not to diminish uncharted but it’s only one game lol. honestly ps4 at this rate could have a game named manure and still sell consoles. it’s the hot thing

  • Toni D

Latest rumor about Quantum Break places it in June.

Killzone Shadow fall, Knack, Driveclub, and Infamous second son are big failures. Baseball sucks! My generation preferences are American Football and soccer. Even wrestling and basketball has better rates of fans. We don’t care about baseball.

  • Mike Scarborough

buy a console, buy a video game, play the video game and shut the heck up already, lol …… it seems like like everyone is playing that game called “complain” developed by “fanboy ent” published by “higher resolution”

  • So March is the first half of 2015? Damn, I sure do hope that the remaining 9 months make up for the first 3.

Also, apparently my math skills never made it out of 1st grade.
