ID@Xbox Director Chris Charla on how relaxing the parity clause actually is.

No Man’s Sky is one of the most anticipated indie games of 2015. Scheduled to launch on PlayStation 4 and PC sometime this year, the game will not be coming on the Xbox One. But ID@Xbox Director Chris Charla recently stated in an interview with TiC Podcast [site URL here] that he “would love to see it on the Xbox One” but it’s something that the developer needs to decide whether they want to bring the game on the console.

He also stated that they will have games to announce at E3 but as expected he did not revealed what they are going to announce. “In terms of stuff that we want to announce at E3, I don’t want to be a jerk but you have to wait till E3. We always have some stuff to talk about at E3.”

He also explained how Microsoft have plans to bring some of the older Xbox and PC games to Windows 10 which might potentially support cross play between Xbox One and Windows 10.

“In terms of Windows 10, one of the big things we announced at GDC is ID@Xbox is going to expand and is going to cover Windows 10 as well. On Xbox we helped developers to get dev kits for free, get through the whole publishing process. On Windows 10, you obviously don’t need a dev kit since you are going to use the PC but we are going to help developers with Xbox Live, from Gamerscore and achievements and of course cross play, if they want to do it between Xbox One and Windows 10 version. I do think there will be a good number of titles, that were PC titles, will be coming to Windows 10 store which were previously standard desktop applications and hopefully we will also see games that started life on Xbox to also go to Windows 10 and potentially have cross play too.”

The Xbox One’s parity clause has been controversial till date but Charla stated that they are okay with developers launching their games on other platforms first but they would like to see some exclusive stuff when that same game launches on the Xbox One.

“We totally understand, especially for a smaller developer, one or three person shop but if someone is coming through ID@Xbox policy and they are like ‘I need to ship these games serially like I can’t ship all the console versions on the same day’, we totally understand that and we are completely happy to work with people on that kind of thing. But if somebody takes money for exclusivity for another platform or ships the game on another platform or does not ship on the Xbox, you know long time later or several months later they decide to ship on Xbox, all we ask is that they add something to the game to make it fresh for Xbox players. So Xbox players will get something fresh when they download the game. Our goal is to make sure that if the developer wants to ship the game on Xbox, they can ship the game on the Xbox One. That is the ultimate bottom line.”

  • Triton

He is obviously hinting exclusive content on NMS.

    • Clate

XD, No Man’s Sky will never make it to Xbox. I can 100% promise you that.

    • Jimmy DoneGood

      It’s coming. I guarantee it.

    • Clate

Lol, in 2 years you will be saying the same thing right? Sony made a deal with Hello Games. It can not release on any other console…..

    • Triton

Same commercial NDA deal as Destiny had, only difference the game is timed. It was unofficially announced PC, Xbox and PS4 even before Microsoft let Hello Games use their studio.

    • Clate

?, NMS has never been announced for Xbox at any point in any way. Like I said I can assure you it wont happen. Its about as likely as Bloodborne ending up on PC.

    • Psionicinversion

sony hasnt paid for NMS so it could do, theres absolutely nothing to stop it from going xbox

    • Triton

Both HG and some “other sites” who interviewed them, mentioned it for Xbox before the deal was made.
Now devs have said they cant discuss *if and when* its released for other consoles.
They wouldnt say that if it werent coming, they would just openly say its not coming at all.

It’s your choice not to believe it and it does not change the fact it will release on XO some time after PS4.
If my knowledge of this cant change your perception in the matter, this argument is simply unnecessary.

    • David

That’s incredibly unlikely. Expect to see it 6-12 months after its ps4 and PC release.

    • Clate

      http://www.gamepur.com/news/18384-microsoft-no-regret-no-mans-sky-being-ps4-exclusive-xbox-one-have.html

Because these MS quotes make sense it is coming to Xbox… Sony and Hello Games signed a deal for it there is nothing MS can do

    • David

I’ve read that and to me doesn’t mean anything. When they announced the game they only used the word debut. Never console exclusive. Also when the actual developer was asked they simply said they have no plans at this time. That’s all. As of right now everything is purely speculation. I do believe sony is pushing for a deal but they lack Capitol. Microsoft doesn’t. It would be hard for the developer to turn down the money Microsoft can offer. It is possible that sony locks it up. But I doubt it.

    • Clate

?, MS has way more money than Sony yes but if you think Sony cant “buy” an exclusive from an Indie dev I do not know what to tell you. Sony could buy Hello Games 10000x over. MS does not invest as much into games as Sony does already. Take a peek at how many studios Sony owns compared to MS.

    • David

I agree that they could but why get into a bidding war with Microsoft over an indie game? (Granted Microsoft wants it that bad which I believe Phil spencer does) use that money on something of bloodbornes caliber. Yes no mans sky looks absolutely amazing and as an Xbox owner I’m being optimistic but still it’s just an indie game. Sony would be wise to save that money for something else. But I do agree with your statement on Sony investing more into games. That’s why I love Phil spencer. I feel he’s really making a difference.

    • Clate

MS needs to start opening studios instead of buying all of their exclusives. (Titanfall, Tomb Raider, Sunset Overdrive. ETC.) that is a big reason they have such a hard time making a profit on Xbox. Would like to see MS do that with Xbox but I don’t think they will sadly. Every Xbox One game not on PS4 is coming to PC and since I have a gaming PC they are giving me no reason to buy one.

    • Orion Wolf

“MS needs to start opening studios”

      They have more than Sony.

      Titanfall

The devs behind Titanfall wanted to bring the game to the ps4, but Sony refused.

      http://attackofthefanboy.com/news/titanfall-ps4-sony-declined/

      Tomb Raider

In an interview regarding the Tomb Raider deal Spencer said that they weren’t the first choice for that deal, it’s more
than possible that CD approached Sony first.

      http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2014-08-18-xbox-boss-phil-spencer-makes-case-for-tomb-raider-exclusivity-deal

“I’ll just put it this way: other people could have done this deal. There was nothing about us that said, we were the
only people would could do this deal.”

      SunsetOverdrive

Sony wanted to own the IP, MS let Insomniac keep the SSOD IP, by the same logic Sony shouldn’t have bought Bloodboorne?

Hard time making profit on xbox

      A link?

      And the last part

NMS (and all other Indies) is coming to PC, and a recent (very popular) ps4 game might appear on the PC too, so what reason is there for me to buy a ps4?

    • Counterproductive

      Wow. That’s literally entirely incorrect.

    • Orion Wolf

      Especially the links provided.

    • bardock5151

Cool. Just as soon as you pop some links up to back up your claims that his links and verified information are wrong, we can all take you seriously.

    • Counterproductive

Cool. Don’t take me seriously, I don’t care.

    • David

Honestly I like the PC intergration. Not a PC gamer but it’s a market they’ve been in for awhile so it’s good to see them not turning their back. I also don’t mind them buying exclusives. Their wallet is an asset so I don’t have a problem. I would much rather they invest in opening first party studios but only time will tell on that one.

    • Clate

I have nothing against them doing things for PC. PC is my 2nd fav platform, but it is hurting Xbox sells atleast to a small degree because they aren’t giving people like me any reason to buy an Xbox. 95% of the games not on PS4 are on PC as well

    • David

That’s true. But I think they feel they’ve been neglecting PC and they want to make up for it. I noticed that when they decided to bring fable to PC. But I don’t mind. I like the possibilities of cross platform play as well.

    • Orion Wolf

      Microsoft

      Sony
      14 production studios worldwide.

    • Clate

XD LOL that explains all the MS in house exclusives….. Wait….

    • Orion Wolf

      Microsoft

      Sony

      source?

    • Orion Wolf
    • Triton

Stop talking Xbox. Think Windows 10.

    • Clate

We know NMS is coming to PC already lol

    • You Are Flat Out Wrong

Good. Sooner you can accept it will be better on PC and 60FPS on PC and not on your 30FPS 900PS4 :^)

    • Clate

Atleast I do not have to deal with viruses and driver crashes on my PS4 lol.

    • You Are Flat Out Wrong

LOL PS4 crashes all the time and PC’s only get viruses if they are run by stupid losers like you :^)

    • Triton

I ment that Xbox is soon a Windows 10 platform.

  • Thad Vanity

    Dear Micro$oft, Meet Steam.

    KTHNXBYE.

    • Raptor lord

      Steam is trash

  • dead fanboy

Who cares about a cheap indie game. Microsoft just invest more on AAA games we real gamers want more Halo, Gear, GTA, and Forza type of games.

    • andy

Haha a true Xbox fanboy. All you want is Halo, Gears and Forza, welcome to the last 4 years of your 360s life in games because that was ALL you got. At least you are definitely supporting the right console for you.
Also why, to you anyway, must games with a greedy publisher and tonnes of day 1 and a week after launch DLC make them better than another game without that sort of hindrance?

    • HAppY_KrAToS

because of guys like this, the gaming industry is what it is, today.
how many thousands designers, coders, engineers, etc, could microsoft have hired, how many studios could they have created, how many hundreds games, many AAA, with plenty of new concepts, ideas, genres, etc etc, could they have made, with the 2.5 billion $ they spent on minecraft…

at the end, most studios just want to release another fps that plays and looks and feels like halo and gears.
every year, the same cr aap, the same ub isoft series, the same acti vision or electronic A games, over and over,ad nauseum.

because kids like this just want another fps with auto-aim ON, where they control a fabulous marines-soldier here from new york, with his 3 mates slate, mike and steve, 3 bad boys, and together, they must save the entire world, for the 125th time.

this is the only genre and games 90% of this kids do want.

of course, if you ask them to play a game with a story, a la heavy rain or, or any other game that doesn’t use guns.. the guy will find all those games boring.. because they ask them to think A LITTLE, unlike the fps, where they just pick weapons and options, and GO GO GO. they walk during 5 seconds, and they kill someone, or get killed. THIS, over and over.

of course, if gamers ASK for this, studios will give them THIS.

“no man’s land ? ohhh no, we, true gamers, we want games like halo gears and forza”

      wow, really, wow…

    • dead fanboy

The kids that are ruining gaming is like you Sony fanboy.

    • Psionicinversion

Actually MS will make that $2.5billion back THIS YEAR then after that it means more money for them 😀 and get more money to make games and stuff

    • dead fanboy

Want is wrong with AAA games? Gears of War, Halo, Uncharted, and Tomb Raider are great games. And most indies aren’t good enough to replace them, just a few are very good like Ori and the Blind Forest, Resogun, and Oddworld. But I mostly have majority of my indies are downloaded in my PS Vita except to Ori and the Blind Forest is in my Xbox One and none on my PS4.

The big problem is kids being brainwashed by some corporation hyping cheap indies as being great AAA games. They are like American politicians giving misinformation by lying to the masses in order to gain personal profit. And Sony is exactly like those political scumbags.

    • andy

So Ori and the Blind Forest and Resogun got critical praise world wide and you admit that they are great.
So when No Man Sky gets the same praise you instantly hate on it for not coming to Xbone, why is that?
Who is hyping it up as a AAA game, that is the first time I heard of that after you just said it? If its in the article above, I apologise, I rarely ever read what Gamingbone ever has to say.

    • Nicolas Howell

So very true. Regardless the company, they’re all after your money and all they have to do is fool you

    • andy

You want to know what a “real gamer” is too mate? Somebody who doesn’t buy Kinect twice like you did. The first time you were duped and the second time it was forced on you. Because you speak for “real gamers” lol.

    • Nicolas Howell

      Thank you

    • bardock5151

Yeah, real gamers don’t want to enjoy what part of gaming interests them.

Real gamer’s are r£tards like you who want to jump on other peoples choice’s for gaming.
Just as clarification (it seems !diots like you and the ps fantard club need to have most things explained to them), you are an !diot and an embarrassment to every gamer.

    • GotNews4Ya

He’s an Idiot because he likes a brand of console that you don’t like.. Seriously?

  • andy

I have already explained this so many times but here goes again. Hello Games are not really talking to Microsoft at the moment because of the awful job the head of Xbox Game Studios did with allowing them to bring Joe Danger to 360 back in the day. Who was that? Oh just a man named Phil Spencer lol. So I guess they are still waiting for that apology.

    • Triton

Yeah…and because MICROSOFT gave Hello Games a studio to work in during the flooding and they unofficially already announced the game for Xbox makes it even less probable right?

  • dead fanboy

Sony fanboys are ruining the gaming industry. JRPGs and Cinematic aren’t the only genres that matter. We real gamers want more diversity like shooters, platformers, racing games, and fighting games. That’s why Sega and Nintendo became great because of AAA games.

    • Design by Adrian

From a real gamer to another real gamer, XBox and Playstation both have all these genres. Even the latest consoles have at least one of each genre you mentioned.

Don’t understand how people who choose one platform can ruin the industry for people playing on another. What’s really ruining the industry is people pre-ordering games and reward publishers who deliberately remove content from games to sell later by buying the DLCs!

    • Nintendo Fan 4 Lif3

I second that last statement. Sad shame that this is the new normal.

    • Valkyrine

tsk tsk tsk… “We real gamers” haha dumbest thing I’ve read all day…

    • Nicolas Howell

      Right?? Who is this baka??

    • GotNews4Ya

      Baka ? Baka? Mo Faka?

    • Nicolas Howell

I’m assuming that’s all sarcasm….you can’t seriously think Microsoft is a big hit with developers. Valve is going to the extreme of making their own OS just to not deal with them. That should be a “here’s yer sign” moment.

    • ImOnaDrugCalledSheen

Neither are dude bro shooters, enjoy your xbone butter nuts.

    • Counterproductive

I’m pretty sure that all of those games are released on Playstation platforms as well. So perhaps it’s people who gripe unnecessarily that are ruining the gaming industry.

    • John Nemesh

If you like diversity, then Playstation is the place to game. Sony has FAR more diversity in their lineup than the competition!

    • GotNews4Ya

The Market is Saturated with Shooters.. There is more AAA shooters than anything.. and Sony “Fanboys” have nothing to do with Game Developers and the decisions they make and what games they decide to develop.. Also.. Sony is more known for Fighting games than Microsoft is.. hence the SFV exclusivity, and Sony is also more world renowned when it comes to racing games too.. It’s just that Sony doesn’t put out a new Racing game each year and milk its consumers.. it would rather give you a game that you will play for years.. and have some time invested into it.. Not hammer you with DLC until your bank account is negative. Gran Turismo is RACING GAMES. Wait until they release the next GT.. GT 7 will be amazing. Guaranteed.

    • D0ngR

JRPG’s havent been cool since 2001. The stories and character achetype’s havent changed since 1987. My observation is that XBOX and Nintendo guys like to play their games and Sony types like to watch theirs. It’s cool, when I was a kid, I was really into cut scenes. But I, and the industry grew up.

    • Thad Vanity

      We real gamers……own a PC!

      /thread

  • Graeme Willy

Sorry, but I will be getting Star Citizen for PC, why on earth would I buy an inferior title for PC? The Xbox could use this title as it has no similar offering.

    • bardock5151

      Elite Dangerous.

  • Illusive Man

I would like GamingBolt to spend more time talking about the under reported Sony parity clause.

    • jayflow

      What is Sony’s parity clause?

    • Counterproductive

      There isn’t one.

    • Maxcer Maxcer

Adam Boyes tweeted this last year after the MS parity clause was revealed.

    • corvusmd

…yeah and all it does is show the ignorance people have in regards to MS’s clause.

  • Truthhurts24

E3 will be amazing cant wait to see what Microsoft will show

  • Maxcer Maxcer

Big Surprise. the parity clause is waived for a popular title like NoMansSky. such a slap in the face to smaller devs who’s game aren’t getting much attention.

    • bardock5151

It’s waived if the dev is willing to add a little something extra. New guns, armour, whatever.

Read it again, this time actually read it.

    • GotNews4Ya

This isn’t true.. Microsoft does wave the clause for more popular Indie titles.. I.e. Outlast.

  • corvusmd

Uh, you guys need to listen to the podcast again….your “reporting” isn’t accurate at all.

  • ImOnaDrugCalledSheen

“it’s something that the developer needs to decide whether they want to bring the game on the console.”

translation: if they want it on xbone it has to come to xbone first or not at all. This is in accordance with the Microsoft boohoo sniff sniff childish parity clause.

“He also stated that they will have games to announce at E3”

Really so they are going to have games to announce at a game announcement conference, wow what a surprise.

    • bardock5151

“translation: if they want it on xbone it has to come to xbone first or not at all.”

So basically you can read, just not comprehend what you read.
      Good to know.

    • GotNews4Ya

Uh… The funniest part about their “Parity Clause” is how they are like “Oh.. No we don’t care if you release your game on other console first, all you gotta do to release on Xbox one is.. you know.. ask us.. and you know.. add bunches of extra content so that the Xbox One game is different and not the same game, so their is no parity.” I just don’t see what the problem is..? /s.. sigh.. they just don’t get it, do they?

  • YOUDIEMOFO

This is what they’ve already said and have said from the beginning of their feeble attempt at getting the games on XBOne first.

  • dead fanboy
