MP3 Playback Finally Coming to PS4?

Now how about that Suspend/Resume, eh Sony?

Sony promised a lot of features for the PlayStation 4, but not a whole lot of them have actually made it to the console yet, more than eight months after its initial launch. Whereas Microsoft and Nintendo have both been working overtime to patch in missing (and promised) OS features, Sony has been largely coasting. Just recently, they discussed the absence of another feature they promised for the PS4 at launch, but which still isn’t available.

Anyway, it appears that it will be getting at least one missing feature soon enough- that is MP3 playback, which is finally coming to the PS4, given the new job listings on SCEE’s R&D webpage.

Of course, if Sony has only just started recruiting people to work on features it promised before the console even launched, then it probably has some bigger issues that it should look after first. Like, I don’t know, shoddy management.

This is long over due because the console is forcing us to repurchase content we already own and have previously paid for, via online streaming services. That is robbery. By all means offer online streaming as an alternative for stuff we do not already a have, but the content we already have should be playable freely.

If Sony do give us the long awaited mp3 music playback (and hopefully jpg photos and mp4 video), they have to back it up with external USB drive compatibility. The internal hard drive is already too small and space is extremely precious for the games which are huge, especially as we now have the luxury to fully instal the game so that it runs smooth. I see no problem as long as Sony make it secure so that no pirated PS4 games can be booted off the external drive.

I just have one thing to say, if these features take more of the RAM that can used for gaming. Then it’s better to leave it out. I hope they better optimize the OS, like they did with the PS3.

I agree specially thinking about the ‘suspend’ option that may not be worth it
