Hi-Rez Studios, which is responsible for the success of Tribes Ascend and Smite, has revealed its newest title: a team-based fantasy shooter called Paladins which will release next year for Xbox One, PS4 and PC. The game will be free to play with closed beta sign-ups currently live.

Paladins uses a different system from Hi-Rez’s previous titles. Along with a main weapon, different skills and a mount, you’ll have a set of skill cards that you can customize. These skill cards will offer different effects and can be leveled up for more strength and defense.

There is some concern that Hi-Rez will abandon Smite to concentrate on Paladins (which is what happened with Tribes Ascend when Smite came about). Thankfully, it seems that Paladins will have a separate development team dedicated to its running.

Head here to sign up for the closed beta and let us know what you think of Paladins in the comments below.
