Every now and then there are claims that consoles are dead. Regardless of such claims, the console market has actually expanded each generation. From the days of PlayStation 2 to Gen 7th, the console base has nothing but increased. Sony worldwide studios boss Shuhei Yoshida addressed these claims in a conversation at GameLab.

“We were told 2 years ago that consoles are dead and looking at the sales of PS4 and Xbox One, it does not seems like it. What we try to achieve with consoles is that it’s a homo-genius platform, so from the developers stand point, it’s the same experience or same hardware,” he said.

“They can spend time into really fine tuning it or we can go even deeper into the metal to get more performance out of the hardware and the consumers don’t need to worry about compatibility.”

Xb1 is doing very against ps4 and its only available in 13 countries.. The ps4 lead gap well continue to close

    • jayflow

So why isn’t XB1 closing the gap in those 13 countries? By your logic it should be beating the PS4 in those 13 countries, but in reality it isn’t. Is the Kinectless console going to make a difference? We’ll see.

    • d0x360

I think arguing about sales in the first year is silly. It doesn’t matter until the end of year 2 and into year 3.

If you wanna talk about pointless sales stats why does the wiiu consistently outsell ps4 in Japan? Does it make any difference? Nope.

    • Not_true

Global is more important than regional sales, that’s why.

And globally it’s safe to say Xbox isn’t catching up.

    • d0x360

Safe to say? Interesting. I’ll bet you $100 by year 3 the Xbox is the global sales leader. So come back to this post at that time and reply. If I’m wrong I’ll PayPal you $100 right then and there.

    • Not_true

      LOL! Free money!

How is Xbox One going to get ahead in global sales by 2015? (2013, 2014, 2015 – year 3) Or did you miscount and mean 2016?

Keep in mind PS4 is basically 4 million units ahead in global sales right now, and Playstation is a stronger global brand.

    • d0x360

I don’t need to count anything. Nor do I need to act like a goofus and lol lol all over the place.

You can giggle all day and all night if you want. Doesn’t change the fact that it will happen.

I am serious. $100. See you then. Hopefully you remember.

    • Not_true

How do you think Xbox is going to surpass a ~4 million lead in global sales?

Every reasonable person looking at sales on forums like beyond3d, vgchartz, and neogaf all agree Xbox won’t catch up globally. Maybe it will catch up in the USA.

Go on to any of those forums and say that and you’ll be laughed at.

    • d0x360

4 million is a small number. There’s nothing to argue here. I stand by what I said. When the time comes if I lose reply to this post. Easiest $100 you ever made. Feel free to also post when I win although I don’t want any money.

    • Not_true

LOL forget about closing a 4 million gap, it’s doubtful there will be a single month this gen Xbox outsells PS4 globally.

    • Dangerousjo 1985

Only 4 million up huh, kinda rememinds me of the lead the 360 had on the ps3..

    • jayflow

Not arguing, just making a point. Fanboys love to spit out XB1 in 13 countries, but PS4 is in 50+ countries. My question is why isn’t it beating the PS4 in those 13 countries?

    • Rooster41

PS4 selling in 51 countries compared to 12 countries for Xbox One is not a fair comparison when the Xbox One releases in the remaining 22 countries and with the $400 Xbox One
the sales numbers will definitely be closer aniylist and even Sony knows this

    • jayflow

With the Xbox one being $400 and being available in more countries it’ll help, but will it make a big difference. I’m not so sure. I think it’ll be about the games. Truth be told, both consoles are pretty dry at the moment, but I suspect next year we’ll see some great exclusive games for both systems.

    • Not_true

The $400 SKU seems to have done very little for Xbox sales.

Tier 2 countries will do very little for Xbox sales.

You’re grasping at straws, just like Titanfall, or E3 2014, or any of those entries on the chalkboard that failed to do much for Xbox sales.

    • Dangerousjo 1985

OK sounds good.. But by your logic the xb1 shouldn’t even be close with only being out in 13 countries to 51 countries.. Lol that’s a huge difference..

    • jayflow

Ok…If you think a 4 million difference is close. Remember this though, 38 other countries is what MS considers tier 2 countries. Areas that are typically dominated by Sony. I expect MS to eventually take Sony in the US, but where they’re going to miss out this generation is in Europe. The margin won’t be as wide in the US like it was in the last generation.

    • Dangerousjo 1985

Well, see we don’t really know if that’s true or not until later on..remember xbox360 has sold 83 million consoles and only 46 million consoles is the US and 26 m in the uk that’s only around 72 million.. The other 11 million is from those smaller tier 2 and still important counties..

    • Not_true

Uh the global sales gap has been widening every month since launch. You’re wrong. It’s currently ~8.2 to ~4.5 million and growing.

PS4 will outsell Xbox globally in September.

Tier 2 countries will do very little for Xbox One sales. Xbox will never catch up in global sales.

    • Rooster41

Xbox One doesn’t need to outsell PS4 globally they just need to outsell the PS4 in the United States and United kingdom, this was the case with the Xbox 360 vs PS3 the Xbox 360 never outsold the PS3 globally yet the world wide base was 82million-Xbox 360 vs PS3-83 million
Aniylist are predicting the Xbox One taking back the United States because of the $400 Xbox One

    • Not_true

The $400 SKU seems to have done very little for Xbox sales.

Xbox might outsell PS4 in USA eventually, but the gap is growing wider and MS will have to do more than remove Kinect.

    • Richard Feelgoode

PS4 continues to widen the gap in every territory they’re competing in. Worldwide sales are at about 9 million for the PS4 and 5 million for the Xbox One.

As for the Kinect-less SKU helping sales, it’s hovering in the 50’s on Amazon’s top 100 US sellers in the video games categories, while the PS4 remains between 10-15 week after week. Even preorders for the PS4 Destiny bundle is selling far, far better than the $399 Xbox One.

    • Dangerousjo 1985

Lol I know in all 51 countries ps4 is now getting stronger.. Xb1 well do much better week on week when its in more countries like the ps4.. The xb1 kinect/less is sitting in a strong new potiton on the Amazon, best sellers list in 15 place.. The well only continue to grow.. And I don’t think xb1 well ever outsell ps4 on a global scale, but they don’t have to xb1 needs local more then global..

    • Richard Feelgoode

No, the Kinect-less SKU is literally at #51. The old Xbox One SKUs arent even in the top 100. PS4 is at #11, and the Destiny PS4 bundle preorders are at #35.

    • Dangerousjo 1985

Wrong!! the Xbox plus kinect is in 51 place.. The kinectless Xbox one is 15 on the list..

    • Richard Feelgoode

      http://www.amazon.com/best-sellers-video-games/zgbs/videogames#3

Down to #55 now. You’re going too granular, leaving out tons of other items in the “video games” category (a really sad and transparent attempt to cherry pick data, btw). Again, Kinect-less SKU is #55, the $499 SKU isn’t even charting

    • Dangerousjo 1985

What?? All the console’s out are on the list and video games and none video game items what are you talking about ???

    • Richard Feelgoode

You’ve butchered the results so much that a streaming device is #1, batteries and chargers are on the front page, networking cables are ranking, and preorder consoles aren’t even showing up – to start. Look at my results, they’re just the “video games” category.

    • Dangerousjo 1985

OK let me have the link to see what you’re looking at ..

I don’t see consoles dying anytime soon. We definitely have a other generation after this one to look forward too and probably another after that as well. There is nothing to replace them and won’t be for quite some time.

Mobile this mobile that but in reality a mobile device hooked up to a TV doesn’t compare. Some of the best looking high end mobile games look like something running on an n64 in high res when you out them on a HDTV. Until we have a revolution in battery technology and a new way to make CPU and GPU chips that can run crazy fast but also cool mobile will never catch up. It will be at least 2-3 years before tablets can reach ps3/360 levels of graphics.

Current ones look great on said tablet but the screen is small. Put it on a TV and you see incredibly simple geometry, low detail models, low detail textures, low detail animation and the list goes on and on.

The only things tablets will be able to come close to matching in the near future are things like particle effects and lighting.

So gamers fear not. Enjoy your consoles and your PC. Also enjoy your mobile device. Gaming isn’t going anywhere and neither is your platform of choice. Sure there is more diversity now but just because something new comes along doesn’t mean traditional things have to die.
