Square Enix Wants to Remake its Classic Games for Nintendo Switch

Can we finally have that Final Fantasy 7 Remake for the Switch, please?

Very few companies have a catalog of classic games such as Square Enix. Final Fantasy IV, VI, and VII? Vagrant Story? The company has a deep catalog of beloved classic games that an entire generation of new gamers never got to play- and that Square now wants to bring over to said new audiences, by remaking and modernizing them for systems like the Nintendo Switch.

Speaking to MCV, Square Enix CEO Yosuke Matsuda spoke about his desire to modernize classic Square games for a modern system like the Nintendo Switch. “So we think that program of porting and transferring the older titles over to newer platforms, such as the Switch, is very important,” he said. “So that people get that awareness of our back catalogue. Just straight ports isn’t cutting it, we need to update those and modernize them to make something that works for modern gamers too.”

So…Final Fantasy 7 Remake is being put on the Switch? Square is clearly one of the most enthusiastic third party supporters of the Switch- it will be interesting to see what they have cooking for the platform in the coming weeks and months.
