Say what you will about graphics but they’re one of the most impressionable aspects of any video game. Even if you’re playing a 2D side-scroller, it’s the art style that will ultimately grab your attention. When you walk into Rise of the Tomb Raider or The Last of Us, you don’t expect anything less than triple-A quality visuals. Though great graphics alone don’t make a great game, they can enhance an already amazing experience into something more. This year is full of titles that will push the boundaries in graphics. Whether they promise big changes in the way we perceive any single aspect in video games – like real-time destruction or open world scale – or simply offer an emotional experience we won’t soon forget, here are our picks for the 25 graphically intense games of 2016.

Horizon: Zero Dawn

Guerrilla Games’ open world action RPG has given us severe Witcher 3 meets Robopocalypse vibes. And there’s nothing wrong with that at all. Massive robotic dinosaurs, large draw distances and a steady frame rate defined the demos we’ve seen till now. Though only in-engine footage has been revealed till date, the house that brought us the Killzone series is sure to impress visually. The question is – can it stun is in equal measures with gameplay?
