Both the PS4 and the Xbox One have 4K resolution output capabilities, though the PS4 reserves its 4K output specifically for videos, while Xbox One theoretically allows games to output at that resolution as well. Of course, both of these consoles are far too weak to ever allow any output at resolutions that high, so it is a moot point.
Or is it, really? It appears that the Xbox One, at least, may be about to get a game that outputs in 4K. In the process, the game will become the first console game in history to support those resolutions natively, and the Xbox One will have the honor of becoming the first console to allow 4K game output.
The game in question is nothing special – allegedly, it is just the Xbox One version of World of Tanks – but it would still be a big deal. Still, this isn’t confirmed yet fully- it isn’t clear if the producer was talking about the textures being at 4K and displayed with a 1080p buffer, or if the game runs at 4K resolution. But whatever the solution is, it’s a technologically impressive feat regardless.
