Xbox One Dashboard Losing The Snap Feature

The loss of the feature is geared towards better overall performance

Microsoft has been talking quite a bit lately about its’ upcoming dashboard UI update. One of the details about this refresh that just became available is that it will feature the removal of a function that is one of the more original functions on any console out right now.

Microsoft’s Mike Ybarra confirmed on Twitter that the Xbox One dashboard will soon not have the Snap function any longer. Ybarra said the removal is so that the dashboard will, “improve multitasking, reduce memory use, improve overall speed, and free up resources going forward for bigger things.”

The bigger things have not been made clear yet but there has been some talk about a kind of picture in picture feature. This would be an interesting replacement for a function that allowed people to see their game play alongside a period of time when another app was running. We’ll just have to wait and see if picture in picture is indeed a new addition.

Damn, I use it a lot, ah well if it makes it faster you got to take the good with the bad.

I’m gutted as yet again a feature that I use all the time will now be removed, complete joke. And to make out it’s “in order to improve” is even more of a joke. The UI is laggy and has been from day one, so now they want to remove something gamers use to try and improve upon the lag = madness, and should have been done upon release then as that way people wouldn’t be lend in by features only to have them stripped away.

You really are some kind of stupid aren’t you

    • crazy_black_man-

They continuously take all the features away from your console and you go “ah well, the console sucks, hopefully this will make it work faster like the PS4, even though I hate the PS4”.

And then you have the nerve to call ME stupid?

      What an idiot.

The Xbox One has been continually losing features since its launch. I remember people harping on the PS3 losing Linux like it was the worst thing ever and here we see the Xbox One losing everything lately in the name of better performance. Kinect, snap mode, etc, etc,…this is freaking embarrassing. Obviously Microsoft’s vision for the Xbox One was a total failure from the laggy UI, to Kinect, to that stupid Cortana being a waste of resources. What will they take out next to try and speed this crappy thing up? The hdmi passthrough?

Back compat, EA access, proper png screenshots from the get go, clubs, LFG, better GwG, UHD Blu-ray, coming Atmos support, HDR, HDMI pass through, Cortana, a hardware refresh that actually has an inspired design to it, elite controller, design labs, user voice, Xbox play anywhere and more. All are improvements, Xbox just keeps getting better.

Then there is coming Scorpio, which isn’t a half measure money grab like the other company’s have attempted. True 4K UHD guaranteed for 1st party, with power enough for 3rd party to decide. Proper VR, and real power. Xbox just keeps getting better.

Gimmicks and half-asses. About what I expect from that dead brand.

    • bardock5151

Gimmicks like shareplay? Move along shill.

    • crazy_black_man-

Yeah, share play. A gimmick that MS is obviously trying to copy right now in their latest preview build, but I’m sure it will fail just like everything else they’ve attempted with the console so far.

We were told on countless occasions that the Snap feature was a great thing to use and helps make Xbone stand out from PS4 as the PS4 didn’t have it. Now thanks to the demise of cancellation that’s taking place that feature is now looked upon as terribly and implemented into the UI, we can’t win lmao!

    • crazy_black_man-

LOL. No one would ever admit that snap sucked and was a resource hog until Microsoft took it away. This stuff is hilarious.

    • Gamez Rule

Just told my son about losing the snap feature and he was like WHY! He uses it all the time and can’t see why it would be removed instead of becoming implemented better into the UI.

    • crazy_black_man-

I just read the first two of your lame talking points. Playing old 360 games and paying monthly now for EA demos that used to be free demos. Heck, the console can’t even handle the new Resident Evil. No wonder they keep removing features to increase performance. You people are a joke. Pathetic.

    • bardock5151

      Pathetic is your reply kiddo.

  • Mr Xrat

I remember when Xgimp losers used to use this as a selling point lmao.
