Xbox One Has More Exclusives Incoming, “Brilliant Time” To Be An Xbox Gamer – Microsoft’s Graeme Boyd

Graeme Boyd on the importance of exclusives and 3rd party games for the Xbox One.

Rise of the Tomb Raider (12)

I might probably face a bit of criticism for writing this but the truth is that Microsoft’s line up for 2015 Holidays is looking much stronger compared to its counterpart, the PS4. However, that could change next month if Sony announces their plans for the upcoming and all important Holiday season. But as of right now, the Xbox One is clearly leading the way with Halo 5: Guardians, Forza Motorsport 6 and The Rise of The Tomb Raider.

But it seems that there are more exclusives on the way.  Graeme Boyd who is the social marketing manager at Xbox, has revealed in an interview with gamer2gamerevolved that there are more exlusives besides the ones that are already announced.

Speaking about Halo 5, he admiited that the franchise is important to Microsoft but there is lots more to come besides Fable Legends, Quantum Break and Rise of The Tomb Raider.

“Absolutely. As you can imagine, Halo is a huge deal for us at Xbox and I can’t wait to see where Master Chief’s story is going in Halo 5. If you’ve been following the #HuntTheTruth stuff there’s some really interesting stuff going down, and I think we’ll really need to question our understanding of Chief as a character and the relationship we’ve all had with him over the last 15 years.

“I think the new direction 343 are taking there feels fresh and new and exciting but still distinctly Halo, so I’m really excited to see and play more of that.”

“But the most exciting thing for me is that Halo 5 is just one exclusive Xbox One title still to come. We’ve also got Forza 6 on the horizon, Fable Legends, Quantum Break, and lots more to come – and don’t forget that Xbox One is the only place you can play the new Tomb Raider this year. That – plus all the big third-party titles – means it’s a brilliant time to be an Xbox gamer.”

Microsoft have confirmed that they will be showing a new IP at next month’s E3 but it seems that they will probably showcase more than one game for the Xbox One. If these new games are launching by the year’s end or early 2016, it will be indeed be a a brilliant time to be an Xbox Gamer.

    Rumors I’ve heard so far:

    * Rare: New IP. (Not Kinect) + “Perfect Dark” or “Battletoads” announcement.
    * Black Tusk: New IP.
    * Lionhead Studios: New IP.

    Third party:
    * A new NFL game “Joe Montana”-something.
    * Maybe a new “Alan Wake”.
    * Stardock: Strategy game, probably “Servo”.

June is truly the silly season of the gaming industry. =)

    • kma99

Joe Montana isnt third party. It can’t be, electronic arts has that locked up. The game will be first party

    • Triton

If MS owns both the EA studio making it (they most likely do not) and the IP.
Otherwise its a third party exclusive. Afaik.

    • kma99

Microsoft is developing and publishing it. Thr game will be first party because that’s the only way it can be made. Only other way would be for the game to not be licensed.

    • Triton

Ok. Regardless…I hope its going to be a success.

    • kma99

Microsoft has an exclusive marketing deal with the NFL. With that being said they have a right to make a 1st party title. 2k is rumored to be making it but its all Microsoft who is developing and publishing it. EA and the NFL renegotiated their deal to have an exclusive contract where as no other gaming company can produce a 3rd party game. It’s not that hard to figure out. I didn’t know I was talking to a brick wall.

    • mj

Joe Montana can be 3rd party, will it have NFL licensing is yet to be clear since the original exclusive contract between NFL and EA expired a few years back and it’s never been made clear if it was extended as is or if there were changes and when the extension ends. It’s all very unclear.

    • Xboxhood

Black Tusk are working on Gears 4.. not a new ip
I’m expecting a new ip announcement from Rare
+ a gameplay demo of scalebound

    • Triton

Yet there has been a rumor about it earlier this year.

    • Orion Wolf

This is an old article, but according to it, BT was working on 4 IPs at the time… I wonder if gears took precedence over all of those.

      http://www.vg247.com/2013/02/02/microsofts-black-tusk-studios-working-on-four-unannounced-new-ip/

    • mj

Black tusk rumor is false. They are doing gears 4. Their other project was put on hold

    • Triton

Ok. Maybe the already proven to exist: Gears 1 remaster took all the manpower.

    • mj

Gears remastered hasn’t been officially confirmed and if anything its been outsourced.

    • Triton

      Official (then) or not…
We all knew it was coming and now its out in the wild.

    • mj

You claimed a new IP, that has not happened.

    • Triton

Yeah, as I said at that time we already knew it would happen, even the correct box art had leaked.

    • mj

What part of “new” ip do you not seem to understand. Once ms bought the studio, they said any game that Blacktusk had been working on was shelved and they were doing gears 4. Gears is NOT a new ip.

    • Triton

Read this whole thread again. I never said that.
I only speculate that the re-make of Gears took all the manpower and we all knew it was a Gears re-make.
There was a rumor about a new IP beyond that.

    • mj

The remake took little man power, as almost all remakes do since these are just high resolution ports, if it took lots of man power companies wouldn’t do this, thered be no money to make. Companies lots of times outsource these to small 3rd party studios. All the man power was being put on gears 4.

Also, there was no rumor of a new ip, there was a new ip being worked on when they were blacktusk studios, it looked like some sci-fi spy thriller game, that was cancelled once ms bought them and put them on gears 4, over a year ago. Once ms bought blacktusk any hope for a wholely new ip was done.

    • Shawn

they have 2 teams at black tusk one on gears theother on a new ip it’s a known fact

    • mj

That’s completely opposite of everything that’s ever been talked about. Do you have a link claiming two teams. it’s been a known fact that once ms bought gears from epic and assigned it to black tusk that their own project was put on hold and it was all in on gears 4.

    • Mark

Lionhead = Project Eden! Dude I would luv a sci-fi exclusive rpg!

    • Shawn

      All rumors

  • JoinTheRest

    Xbox has owned
    2013
    2014 and
2015 so far, 2016 looks like a complete slaughter with the exclusives xbox has coming. Microsoft just have more money to make more and better games then sony who invests in horrible indies and anime trash

    • Demetrius Radford

In sales no but in exclusives H*ll yeah idk why people arent buying xbox 1 when its clearly better than its the ps4

    • ImOnaDrugCalledSheen

Cause xbone is a joke just like its fanboys.

    • Icaraeus

nobody cares about timed exclusives, which are what the majority of XBox games are.

    • Shawn

Microsoft have 2 sequels 1 timed exclusive for their Holiday line
up, lol. What happened to all the exclusives ? lol.

    • XbotMK1

      http://gematsu.com/exclusives/ps4
      http://gematsu.com/exclusives/xbox-one

Xbox One has less exclusives and lower rated exclusives. Xbox One hasn’t received any first party exclusives since fall last year. The highest rated exclusive on Xbox One is an indie game. Sony is the one who has money for exclusives. Microsoft Xbox division is broke from their multiple price drops after backtracking on the failled Kinect.

    • specsix

what do you get out of xbox failures? I do not get this ps4 versus xbox crap. Do you get a better 401k or better job because xbox fails? Do you get 72 virgins in heaven because PS4 is better? Grow up. I love PS4, but stop with the bs for the love of all that is holy.

    • GHz

      LMAO 😀

      Tell em my dude! LOL.

    • efnet

LMAO couldn’t have said it any better

    • Pops

Does who bought the sony gay station bought 1080p.they didn’t buy it for the games because there’s nothing coming for the next two years

    • Michael

He’s a pony and dead wrong anyway.. Xbox doesn’t have the highest but it has more games that have at least 80 scores. Sony has more AAA exclusives that bombed. Titanfall, forza horizon 2,sunset overdrive, project spark, Max and the Brotherhood,D4,deDrising 3, all scored well while the order, drive club and killzone didn’t meet expectations. Ms has a better 2015 and 2016 lineup too. Quantum Break, Halo 5, TombRaider, Scalebound, Forza 6, Crackdown, Fable Legends, Phantom Dust and Rare’s new game make Xbox one lineup stronger than anything ps4 will have.

    • Shawn

Lmfao XBox One didn’t have a 2015 line up. No exclusives from October 2014 to September 2015, seriously check for yourself.

    • dead fanboy

If we listen to lamestream media outlets like gematsu or N4G, we are listening to Sony’s propaganda of lies. Because so far my favorite console is the Xbox One with better exclusives like Killer Instinct, D4, State of Decay, Sunset Overdrive, and especially my favorite game of this generation Forza Horizon 2. While my PS4 is collecting dust

    • John Jeffrey Tambanillo

      I guess you haven’t tried Bloodborne…

    • Blarg

      Bloodborne isn’t for everyone..

    • dead fanboy

That is why I hate Sony fanboys. I didn’t like Bloodborne. It’s not my type of game. So what’s the problem with not liking Bloodborne?

    • Blarg

Same thing with me man. My PS4 also kinda just collects dust. I just use it to play The Last of Us with my girlfriend every so often when we’re torn on watching a movie or playing a game. The fanbase on PS4 is just so immature and fanboyish. Whining about things like a few extra pixels and sales. Sales matter, yes, but the people turning the sales into this big thing making it seem like the Xbox One is in the state the Sega Genesis was against Nintendo. Sorry, but it’s not even close. Both consoles are doing well; none are really inferior, and they both have different sets of exclusives for different types of people. Do the Xbox One exclusives have the highest metascore average, and do they have the most exclusives? Not so much, but Xbox is catching up. Are the exclusives they have out right now fun, overall, likeable games to a wide casual gaming audience? I would have to say yes. They may not be critically recepted as well, and I’m saying they’re slightly not as good in the ratings department. It’s nothing drastic. However, this is something that the PS4, in my opinion, doesn’t offer as much (Bloodborne, Driveclub (much harder than Forza), random indie games).

    • ImOnaDrugCalledSheen

Whats the problem with not liking xbone? You seem fine dishing out opinions but are unable to except them.

    • John Jeffrey Tambanillo

Dude! I’m didn’t say it’s for everyone. I replied to a guy who has a PS4 collecting dust.

    • ImOnaDrugCalledSheen

      Neither is xbone.

    • dead fanboy

I played Bloodborne and it’s not good. But I did like The Order of 1886…the only problem with that game was to short and it had lack of content. Actually my favorite PS4 game is Resogun.

    • ImOnaDrugCalledSheen

“I played Bloodborne and it’s not good.” LOL because you suck at something doesn’t mean its not good, in fact the overall positive opinions of Bloodborne not only proves you wrong but makes you look like a fool for even claiming it. Sure you dont like it cause you’re no good at it but that doesn’t mean its not good.

    • dead fanboy

It’s not if I’m good at Bloodborne, but I simply didn’t like that boring game. Sorry if I don’t follow the lamestream media cattle.

    • ImOnaDrugCalledSheen

Oh so because its your personal favorite it should be everyone else’s too? Buddy you’re in for a lot of disappointment in life if you think it actually works that way.

    • dead fanboy

What’s the problem that I disliked that game? Oh because itsyour personal favorite it should be everyone else’s too? For me Bloodborne is trash.

    • Shawn

Im the opposite Microsoft haven’t delivered anything for me. 2016 is my cup tea with games like Recore, Scale and QB.

    • ImOnaDrugCalledSheen

LOL, anything else to add xbox fanboy or is that all the reputation management and shilling you can muster.

    • Shawn

Lies, last XbOx one exclusive was Sunset Overdrive October 2014. Microsoft didn’t release anything new new untl Forza 6.

  • Fayz the Lad

    GEARS OF WAR!

  • andy

When is this “brilliant time” then? Because they clearly just meant it ain’t since launch or even now then.

  • dead fanboy

Access Games is developing D4 Season 2 and Twisted Pixel studios is also developing a new Xbox One exclusive.

    • tplarkin7

Those don’t count. I could care less for low budget, old-school games. I want AAA games and they should be totally new IP’s.

    • XanderZane41

So “No Man Sky and Wild” doesn’t count either for the PS4? lol!! Microsoft E3 conference is going to be almost 2 hrs of nothing but games. They’ll probably take a breather 1/2 way to talk about Hololens and what it means for XB1, because continuing with some megaton announcements.

    • Aythree Lorenzo

I don’t think that tin can has a brain either, suits him lol.

    • mark_parch

bloodborne is literally the only decent exclusive on ps4. xbox one got titanfall, forza horizon 2, sunset overdrive and ori and the blind forest

    • dead fanboy

Exactly! Suddenly the Sony fanboy doesn’t like indies. For me the best games are actually indies like Ori and the Blind Forest(Xbox One), Resogun(PS4), Kalimba(Xbox One), Helldivers(PS4), and #IDARB(Xbox One).

    • ImOnaDrugCalledSheen

Other way around meat head, it was you xbox fanboys that claimed indies sucked until you finally got some now they are apparently the best thing ever, pull your head out of your fanboy rear.

    • ineedgames

D4 is amazing, go check it out.

    • XbotMK1

I remember you left a comment that looked nearly exactly like his in response to the PS4. lol

    • tplarkin7

I played and liked D4. I agree that it is amazing for a point-n-click adventure. It is far better than any Telltale game. I hope the new D4 allows you to walk in realtime, instead of the Kinect-friendly step-by-step walking. Better yet, I hope D4-2 is a AAA action adventure game.

  • Dr.Ghettoblaster

    My top 5 Microsoft 2015 E3 wishlist:

5). Xbox Live digital arcade games cross buy/play (X360/X1)
    4). New Perfect Dark
3). Shadow Complex 2 (or prequel)
2). New Gears of War (“4”?) gameplay trailer + release date
1). Gears of War 1-J HD remaster collection on 1 disc (ala Halo:MCC). 1080p/60fps/1 disc collection is all I’m really looking for here, as opposed to individual remake(s) sold separately…

    • xbox1rules23

i fee like everything you said can happen besides shadow complex 2 which epic owns. epic said they have no interest in making it. i don’t know. i do think it’s possible to have an exclusive from epic. there were rumors for last year for e3, of one from epic, and then ryse 2 from crytek. ryse 2 didnt happen do to friction with crytek, otherwise everything else in those rumors were spot on. i don’t know about epic now, because they seem so not interested in games right now

    • Mark

Dude I haven’t thought of Perfect Dark……good one

  • jb227

2 Things, the article opens talking about the stronger holiday lineup (definitely seems to be the case at this point) but the incoming exclusives Boyd mentioned weren’t said to be more holiday titles, mentioning Quantum Break means that these reveals aren’t necessarily bolstering the already impressive lineup for the holidays, but for any time after that. I personally think we already know what MS’ Holiday lineup is, the only possible inclusion I could see would be the Gears remaster, but that could easily be pushed to next year so as not to compete w/ Halo 5.

Also, I recently keep seeing “Xbox One is the only place you can play the new Tomb Raider this year.” That small clarification of “this year” & the original reveal specifically saying Holiday 2015 makes me think that Rise will be hitting the PS4 sooner rather than later, definitely at some point in 2016 & possibly as quickly as a few months, considering the year will end only a couple of short months later at the most. Looking forward to playing it when it does hit the PS4 & really hoping E3 is amazing for all platforms. Hopefully Sony has something up its sleeve to add to their exclusive lineup for the Holiday, which is nothing to sneeze at in itself. They have a lot of first parties unaccounted for, it’d be nice if one or two of them had something ready in time for the holidays.

    • MrSec84 .

Yeah with RoTTR MS and SE both just keep saying “exclusive to XBox this holiday”, if it wasn’t coming to a specific platform ever then someone would come out and say that.
The game will no doubt come to PS and PC within 6 months of releasing on XBox.
The franchise is huge on Playstation, it sells more there than anywhere else!
With Uncharted 4 coming out in Q2 it’ll be best for TR to release sooner rather than later.

As we’ve discussed before Sony has many new IPs in development, some of which could be slotted into their Fall 2015 line-up, like Bend’s huge open world game or even Guerrilla’s OW robot dinosaur WRPG game.
Bend’s game has been in the works for 4 years, GG’s 5.
Guerrilla has hired people from CD Project Red, the Writer from Fallout: New Vegas and a whole host of people that have worked on some awesome open world games.

Quantic Dream has a new IP, pretty much every studio in Worldwide Studios has a new IP in development.

Resistance is a solid franchise, that has had a good 4 years on hiatus, that was recently trademarked again and it’s sold very well overall, so I could see that coming back in some form to console.
Killzone sells very well, with that, Resistance or both is probably what Guerrilla Cambridge has been working on since they finished KZ:Mercenary (largely regarded as the best KZ game since KZ2 came out).

GT7 and GT6 were basically a joint development, with a new Engine made to push features PS3 couldn’t handle, assets were made well beyond what PS3 could render, staff hired to deal with every issue fans had about GT5, which will all apparently be dealt with in full on GT7.
That could easily be a holiday release, it would have been 2 years since GT6 came out.
Maybe we’ll hear about that on Monday at the Nurburgring event.

Playstation All Stars, Puppeteer and Knack’s developers have all be silent since those games came out, but they all still work at Sony, so something new could be revealed from them for this Fall.

TLG, Eight Days and Agent were never canceled, same goes for The Getaway, all could be very close to completion by now and with this E3 being the 20th anniversary, along with the 20th anniversary of Playstation launching in the west Sony will no doubt be bringing the big guns to E3 and have a tonne of new huge games coming over the next 12 months.

Sony has a tonne of stuff in their back pocket, a lot of big games in the works that have been in development for 2+ years, quite a few of which are new IPs and many of those have been in development for over 3 years.

This year should be very exciting for Playstation gamers.

    • Mark

I’d add; Joe Montana 16 in July, and release dates for Fable, Tomb Raider, and Forza 6, possibly Gears remake. If they drop anything else this yr, it’ll lose sales. Swhy they delayed Qbreak imo. And I agree, hopefully we all get atleast one amazing new game coming to each system.

    • jb227

Yeah that Quantum Break delay was a great decision & that illustrates Microsoft’s willingness to change their strategy for the better more than anything else. Sony has had a history of releasing these kinds of titles outside of the holidays & w/ such huge 3rd party titles dropping every holiday, it makes more sense for these first parties & especially new ip’s to get out of the way of those titles in order to market to more gamers during quiet periods. Really hoping this trend continues so we have great games year round instead of just amassing a huge backlog every holiday & inevitably getting story driven titles spoiled w/in days of release & mp only titles communities barren by the time gamers roll around to those. Really looking forward to seeing all of these announced titles in proper action finally, I think the wave of true next gen quality titles is just starting to get underway really so 2015 & 16 should be some great gaming.

    • Shawn

Dude you are right Gears remaster, Halo 5, Forza 6 and Timed Tomb was it for this yr and that rare play collection.

  • Tha Truth

Great, more overhyped trash from the Poverty – Box incoming. Loving the desperation of the braindamaged morons who bought the wrong console, your precious Poverty – Box is dead, deal with it.

Xbox DONE = lies, overhype, underdeliver, peasant resoltuions, crap online service, and unbelievably low – quality, trashbag games reserved only for low – IQ morons and losers of society. SALES PROVE THAT, PEASANTS!

Trash on the Xbox like Halo, Gears, Forza and Fable are low – quality scum games for morons and that’s why people aren’t buying the Xbox DONE. The console sucks, it’s games suck and the people who have bought into the lies and overhype of a garbage, peasant machine are just too stupid to know any better. The cheap trash that passes for gaming on the Poverty – Box isn’t going to save the console, it’s the very reason why Microsoft’s POS machine is flopping at retail in the firt place.

    • Orion

My god. A 28 year old with the personality of a 12 year old. They do exist. Btw, tell me why you care about Xbox so much if it’s failing? I bought a bone. I like it. So if I like it, how is my purchase wrong? I’m pretty sure I made the right choice. I’m not totally happy, but then again, I hate Sony for pulling the same s**t you say Microsoft is pulling. Betcha didn’t know that.

Btw…Since when did hype and Xbox One ever exist together, chump? I thought drm killed any hype before that fateful E3. You need to get your facts straight, chump. Quit being a PSChump. The only game worth playing for you guys is typing on Xbox forums and Xbox articles. That’s the way it seems anyways.

    • JoinTheRest

Actually I own both consoles but my ps4 collects dust, here’s a picture look at the dust I don’t even touch it. Played bloodborne for one week since 2013 and now it’s off till 2016 till uncharted comes out.

    • Icaraeus

What about the many other PS4 exclusives releasing this year?

    • Psionicinversion

all those indie games, yeah amazing. Not saying that there bad because im actually looking forward to until dawn but pretending sony has any AAA up its sleeve for this year is naive.

    • Icaraeus

Nope, there have been many AAA exclusives released/releasing on the PS4.

    • Shawn

Obvious xbox fanboy Microsoft aren’t releasing new games. Went on an drought since Sunset Overdrive until now lmao

  • JerkDaNERD7

I wouldn’t be surprised to see another major third-party collaboration with Microsoft to make another exclusive IP. I’m hoping Square Enix will make an RPG with Microsoft, fingers crossed.

    • Shawn

Microsoft e3 was all hype for forza, halo, gears and tomb fans. No new games all year long lol.

  • ImOnaDrugCalledSheen

    LOL, nope.

  • Truthhurts24

Spencer will drop the nuke in June cant wait

  • dead fanboy

Lets not be overhyped people. Sony has overhyped its PS4 since launch and has failed everytime to live up to its promise. Greatness Awaits?!?!…

    • Shawn

I have both my XBox One still waiting on New Exclusives
I prefer. Just a bunch of sequels at the end of the year by Microsoft. For halo, forza and Tomb fans. Nothing new all year for other xbox fans and gamers. Im not buying the MS holiday line up hype train.

  • Mark

Well Phil already said they’d save some reveals for Gamescom too, so E3 won’t show everything…

  • Pops

Wow for every one exclusive sony announces.microsoft gives us five exclusives.ps4 sucks

  • paul miller

Only thing Xbox beats ps on is quality of the controller

  • d0x360

Why would anyone criticize what is an obvious fact? Sony has done nothing but ride the hype train and looks to be doing nothing but through 2015. Hopefully at e3 they show SOMETHING.

I haven’t used my ps4 since a week after oodborne came out and I see no reason to for quite a while. The xbox lineup this holiday is stacked with exclusives and anything multiplatform I’ll buy on PC.

If Sony doesn’t straighten up eventually the hype will wear off and people will see that the xbox has the games and features. Sony might be winning in sales but that doesnt mean a damn thing when there are no games to play on it.

    • Shawn

What games these are the first exclusives since Sunset Overdrive October 2014..lmao.

  • Shawn

    Microsoft didn’t deliver
