Xbox One S Is Really Small- Smaller Than The PS4

Xbox One Small.

ps4 xbox one s

Microsoft weren’t lying when they were talking about how the Xbox One S would be the smallest console they have ever made. The smaller, redesigned console, which launches tomorrow worldwide, is apparently really small- in fact, according to a comparison done by intheGame Netherlands, it’s smaller than even the PS4 now, and the PS4 is pretty small to begin with.

The comparison picture above shows us just how small the new system is- the fact that it’s this small and with an integrated power supply means that it’s some pretty impressive hardware (though we have to hope that it’s not so cramped that it’ll overheat- bad memories of RROD are still a thing for the general gaming public).

This makes the Xbox One S smaller than any current generation console on the market except for Nintendo’s Wii U, which is even smaller. However, the Wii U also uses far older tech, so its small size relative to the Xbox One S’s is less impressive. The PS4 is currently slated to get a Slim revision according to a few rumors too, however, so we may yet see the PS4 regain the lead in terms of being smaller and slimmer.

Oh this will surly not start a “mine is bi..smaller than yours” argument.

  • Doggystyle

“What can brown do for you?”

You can probably expect the first wave of Xbox One S refurbished replacement consoles to hit homes by early to mid September. This smaller console redesign will create good steady business for UPS this winter, which means more seasonal hiring of part time delivery drivers/helpers to assist with the mass shipments of warranty repairs, and refurb replacements, which is good for the economy, and as we all know, a stronger economy is then good for everybody.

A repair is better than not selling at all. I bet sony would love to sell a couple of more vitas…lol… all those suckers like yourself are using vitas to lay your sandwiches on while you watch another spiderman movie…lol

    • Mike

I use my Vita at work to play on my PS4 sitting at home on the shelf all the time.

    • shane

When you do that do you have any lag on the vita or is it pretty reliable?

    • Tomaterrrx

The streaming quality is pretty good. But sometimes the UI on some games don’t work well on such small games. It’s pretty much the only thing that saved me from selling my Vita. Had so much potential, bro.

    • shane

I’m not a PS gamer so that’s why I asked. Thanks for answering. I would think that would be a really good reason for PS4 owners to get a Vita because I agree with you that did have alot of potential and well worth it to get one and all the other features the vita has.

    • Tomaterrrx

Yeah, Vita could have easily been on par with the 3DS in terms of sales but I guess Sony really dropped the ball with this one. 90% of my time on Vita is playing PS4 games. There are some gems on the PS4 like Golden Abyss and for some reason I was a big fan of the NFS Most Wanted port on the Vita. One of my mates had her Vita robbed (don’t ask) and I realized how cheap they are today so I bought her another one for her birthday. Not many have the Vita now, but I think it is worth a try with all those cool (and sometimes gimmicky) features.

    • shane

That’s really cool for you to do that for your friend. To bad more gamers didn’t jump on the vita for all it can do.

    • Tomaterrrx

Thanks, bro! Probably too late for the Vita to compete with the 3DS. I’m hoping for the best for the successor of the Vita (if one ever comes out).

    • Mike

It’s pretty good most of the time, just don’t plan on playing competitive multi player games or first person shooters.

    • harrymanback

If you don’t like America then go back to Europe they love the ps4 there. With this boost of sales it maybe enough for xbox to reclaim it’s spot as America’s favorite and best selling console.
It’s only a little over a million behind the ps4 here in the USA, the greatest country of all time. I bet you’re voting for trump too huh?

    • shane

I agree with the first part of your comment. Second part, no but of course in this country we have a right to our opinion and that makes America great.

    • crizz1066

USA greatest country of all time…. please do go on!

    • Tomaterrrx

No offence, I’m from the UK and all I see Trump as is a rampaging buffoon. Believe in him all you want but you gotta admit he’s kind of had it in the head.

    • Alex Marquette

get real, it may be better than PS4 in the U.S. but overall it won’t catch up to the PS4

    • shane

So that’s good so you could maybe finally get a job and stop bumming money of your friends and family so you can buy a PlayStation instead of renting one.

  • sgt_hammertime

I wish they had a black model. everything I have is either black, silver or both. the white would just throw everything off.

    • JimboDeadite

White lives matter too… just kidding, I’m actually getting the Red Gears of War 4 Bundle! The white isn’t my favorite either.

    • sgt_hammertime

black and silver looks pretty awesome, I wish the scorpio comes back and silver 😀
but now you got me thinking about the gears bundle…

    • JimboDeadite

Yeah I couldn’t pass the Gears bundle up. I’m a Huge Horror fan to begin with, and with the red color, blood stains, scratch marks, etc. I had to pre-order it!

  • JimboDeadite

OMG, please don’t mention the words RROD!! I hope Microsoft is Smart enough to learn from that mistake.

  • Troy Marcel

I knew it was going to be smaller but you don’t fully realize how small till you pick it up and put it next to the original.

  • Mr Xrat

My old VHS tapes still don’t fit.

    • shane

do you think I could fit one down your throat if I smashed it down it?

    • crizz1066

Ohh not only name calling but physical threats. Why am I not surprised you defend M$!!!!
BTW how old are you, shouldn’t you be out chasing pokemon!!

    • shane

I’m probley older than you. Never played Pokemon and you defend Sony like I’m talking about your mom.

    • Nintengods

Explains why $ony shills are stuck in the past

Save those tears for the NX and try not to die of dehydration during the No Man’s Hype 5/10 review scores.

    • plop6759

Just like your CDs still don’t work on your PS4.

    • Tomaterrrx

      Saltiness is real, folks.

  • crizz1066

Ahh to see whats possible when M$ actually try, instead of throwing together the cheapest parts they can to fleece those stupid enough to buy one machines.

    • shane

Are you trying to be cute crizz?

    • crizz1066

      No making a serious point

    • shane

Your point is as valid as a aids infested syringe is to a crack addict.

    • crizz1066

Ahhh thanks for playing, but looks like you’re going home with nothing. “Big round of applause for our loser!”

    • shane

Who says I’m playing your game A$$hole?

    • crizz1066

Ahhh no calling me names, come on now no need to be a bad loser!!!!

    • Dexter

      Best comment ever :):):)

    • Tomaterrrx

Bruh, my face when I read your epic burn.

    • shane

I have no clue what you are trying to say.

    • d0x360

What are you referring to? The og Xbox, the 360 and the one weren’t “cheaply” made. The 360 had the most advanced GPU in the world at its launch. You can blame rrod on the EU mandate of lead free solder not Microsoft. It was impossible for them to foresee RROD.

As for the xb1 if it weren’t for Samsung boosting yields of gddr5 at literally the last min the ps4 would have shipped with only 4 gigs of memory and the xb1 would be winning every head 2 head out there. The reason Sony went with more shader cores was due to the ram issue and that’s it. Its that simple. The mighty ps4 would have been a disaster with only 4 gigs of memory.

    • crizz1066

Yes they were cheaply made, its why they had such a high failure rate with the RROD upto 50%. They rushed an unfinished and untested machine onto the market to try and get ahead of Sony!! They could and should have noticed in Q&A, luckily they know they’ll be people like you who will defend anything they do, like shifting the blame to EU!!!

Who cares what happened at the last minute, Sony brought out the more powerful better looking and designed machine.

M$ as I’ve said before, threw off the shelf parts into a big nasty box. Forced a crap peripheral onto its users and wasted stole their money.

theres a reason why Sony is out selling Xbox everywhere!

    • lagann

It was the solders they used that were giving out on them. That and the disc drives were the main detractors for the x360…everything else was top notch.

Ms themselves didnt even know the cause for rrod until later as they kept on using the same solder for replacements…..replacements that ended up costing ms billions.

Do you really think ms just said “screw it” we gonna save a couple of cents up front and then eat billions later down the line? The problem being the solders is just such a dumb reason for x360 failing it was overlooked. Now i’m i giving ms a pass for their dismal failure rate of x360’s? No. My x360 also rrod on me and i into pc gaming full time for that period….but i can understand why the root cause was overoverlooked. Had nothing to do with cheap. Leave the fanboyism out the door pls.

    • crizz1066

Thank you for proving my statement, they used cheap parts and didn’t do the due diligence of a decent Q&A.

A huge mutli million $ dollar company did not know what the problem was!!!! What are you serious?

Yes I and alot believe that M$ thought they’d get away with it. Like the got away with ignoring the US dept of Justice during the 90’s where they had a manopoly.

You should go check out M$ history before you try to defend them.

Again because of people like you, M$ will continue with cheap products and treating its customer like cash Cows!!!

    • shane

Again, it was because the Xbox 360 was originally supposed to be liquid cooled. In the production model they used a large heat sink and a fan in a the minute to keep the price down (unlike Sony and the PS3). You really think MS knew about it knowing it would cost over a billion and half dollar’s?(some say it was higher than that). That makes no freaking sense anyway you put it.

    • crizz1066

Supposed to be, supposed to be!!!!!

Doesnt matter whats supposed to be, you build something and you Q&A it to find faults. They didn’t as they thought they’d get away with it. They didn’t it cost them lots!!! If you don’t believe they’re capable of it, go look back at their history. Instead of just defending them to the hilt. So they’ll just screw more customer over, with crap like the integral Kinect!!! Wheres that gone!!!
PS3 was expensive and late as it had the new Blu ray drives in, no other reason! Which is why even with the huge headstart 360 had, PS3 still out sold it, including all the extra 360’s people brought as they had RROD!

    • shane

My god you whine like a little girl who lost her dolly. MS did the right thing and fixed the problem.

    • crizz1066

You sound like a battered spouse, defending the aggressor.

    • shane

If that’s such a big deal then why not talk about the PS3’s that were literally blowing up, why not talk about that?

    • crizz1066

“Blowing up” yet again complete exaggeration. While there were some problems with a few units overheating, Sony fixed them.

Sony didn’t continually deny there was a problem, right up until a huge court case was about to be brought against them!

    • shane

MS never denied the Xbox 360 problem. Rember when Sony’s online service got hacked and Sony kept denying it? Sony is not your friend same goes for MS. They want your money, they are in the business of making money. Otherwise they wouldn’t even exist.

    • crizz1066

LOL Not all business are there just to make money, most want to offer quality service.
Yeah Sony denied for a bit about the hack, but no one is truly safe from hackers.
But Sony’s never tried to fleece its fan base like M$ do. As I said before that integral kinect.

    • shane

“not all business are there just to make money” that is the most ridiculous thing I ever heard and Sony is not your friend.

    • crizz1066

WOW ranting so much has to come back 5 hours later to rant again. You have no idea about how business work. I’ve owned and ran my business for 15 years now. Profit is not king or the most important.
Now as you’re obviously just a ranting name calling fool. I’ll not bother to reply to you any more.

    • shane

Your the one ranting crizz. All you do is talk about how bad MS is but when I bring up the crap that Sony has done you make excuses for them. I’m glad to see your not replying back. So go back to running you supposed business where you don’t care about making a profit. FYI your the one ranting and whining about MS like they s**wed your mom. I’ll see you again in another forum where you’ll be crying foul about MS.

    • shane

Hey crizz look. I’m leaving another message like I did last time. Are you going to cry loser?

    • shane

I bet Sony could take a hugh di***o shove it up your a** and you would still be preaching on what a great product it is and the great service they have. FYI Xbox live destroys PS Plus.

  • d0x360

Rrod was awful but it was a confluence of events that couldn’t have been predicted. Leadless solder for electronics was a new mandate by the EU.

Plus the xb1 is over cooled. It has a huge fan and most of its size was just space for ventilation.

With the new smaller and lower tdp of the apu heat isn’t really an issue. The CPU could probably be cooled by just a heatsink alone but despite the shrunk down size they are still using a very large cooling setup which is plenty efficient to keep any thermal issues at bay. Plus better lead free solder is available than was for the 1st two generations (revisions) of the 360

    • shane

What a lot of people don’t relies is the Xbox 360 was originally liquid cooled. It had to switch to a heat sink due to the cost of a liquid cooled cost alot more money on the consumer production model.

    • d0x360

That was just a prototype it was never going to end up in a launch unit. It was overkill and expensive. The issue was the lead free solder melting below the normal threshold and breaking solid contacts. Which is why the towel trick worked.

    • shane

It was more than the prototypes. They had SDK’s and like you said it was the solider and the curve in the middle of the 360 were it restricted airflow.

  • Gary

That’s a pretty slick looking console to be honest. I wonder what the PS4 slim would look like

  • Alex Marquette

You only have ONE picture of the size, I’ve seen reviewers go to every angle on the PS4, and it’s still shorter length wise, width wise as well.

  • Eric Higgin

The bottom black portion of the One S, as well as the angular portion of the PS4 make it a slightly tougher comparison. If the One S is smaller, its only by a hair overall. Considering its using 14/16nm tech, and the PS4 is 28nm, its really not that surprising. If PS makes a PS4 Slim with 14/16nm tech, expect a 25-40% reduction in size.

  • cvam1985

PS4 is the first PlayStation I have not owned the OG console. Holding out for the inevitable Slim version. Hope this Xbox pushes Sony along!

And while they’re at it – release a Slim PS4 Bundle w/ Final Fantast XV! I would pre order that immediately.
