The most high end console yet.

Not much is known about the upcoming Xbox One Scorpio, but Microsoft’s “beast” of a machine looms on the horizon, casting a shadow on everything else, including the just released PS4 Pro. In a recent interview with levelup.com, Xbox head Phil Spencer decided to talk some more about the Scorpio, confirming, in the process, that it will be a more expensive machine than the Xbox One S, and also that Microsoft are going to load it with every kind of technology that they can.

“You know, for us, when we think about the product lineup that we have, obviously our most affordable console will be the S console,” Spencer said. “And we make sure that we’re building that console and putting the features into that console to make it as enjoyable and desirable to as many people as possible at the price. Scorpio will be a premium console, it will cost more than the S, obviously- that’s how we’re building it.

“We haven’t announced price points for the Scorpio yet, but I want to make sure that the investments that we are putting into the Scorpio meets the demands of the higher end customer, and that will mean a higher price. The way for all of us when we think about the console market, is we should understand, there’s not one product that our customers buy- some people come in and buy the 500GB Xbox One S, while many are now buying the original Xbox One consoles, that are at a very good price.

“There’s no one product that you look at and say, ‘this is the product that defines how well you are doing in the market.’ It’s really the breadth of all the products you have at all the price points. And I think for us, we think about Scorpio, it’s for a higher end customer, who demands the most that they can get out of a console, and we built this console to meet that demand,” Spencer concluded.

All of which sounds reasonable, and also makes me pretty confident that Scorpio, too, will have a 4K Blu Ray player (something that Microsoft have not actually confirmed yet). The Xbox One Scorpio is due to launch next Holiday season.

No sh$t sherlock, of course it will.

  • Sounds like hes preparing people for sticker shock.

    • Hvd

      $550 is my bet.

    • Mark

      I say $400-$500

    • Hvd

well the xbox one launched at $500 and this is supposed to be an elite consoles so im saying $600

    • Mark

Well it was only 500 cuz of the Kinect. So it could easily be in the 400-500 range. 600, nah, too much imo. If it is, then it won’t sell much

    • SHEEKEN6969

Shouldnt be a shock if its priced at around the same price as was the PS3. My guess the price will be around 500-600 bucks. Not bad if you ask me. The console sounds like a freaking MONSTER.

    • Mark

I don’t think so. I think he’s making sure people don’t expect Scorpio to be priced right around the S model tag. Lookin at the base S model, it’s 300 bucks. By next yr it’ll cost maybe $250. So I could reasonably see Scorpio being around $400-$500, for a 500GB model. It better not be more than 500 tho…

  • PopPunkParade

If Scorpio plays 360 games without requiring downloading then Microsoft has a winner in their hands.

    • Hvd

      lets hope so.

    • jp

they said it will work seamlessly no tech wizardry will be needed, seriously the Scorpio is shaping up great, im getting an S just for the sake of the 1TB HD and the price point, next year is all about Scorpio.

    • You will have to download them, it’s going to work exactly as it works today on the Xbox One, same OS, same games.

    • Mr Xrat

Says it all about just how defunct the Shitbox brand is.

    • Tomaterrrx

I think it would be great if MS managed to put into place actual 360 hardware along with it’s usual hardware so that it could play 360 games natively. Sony did that with the phat PS3 and it was awesome.

  • Hvd

still will be better then that melting dumpster fire ps4 pro..lol

    • Riggybro

Interesting. You write these statements against media bias etc… then you take a single instance of a melting console (which is still yet to be verified) and run with it as a widespread issue through multiple comments like it’s the RROD part 2 or something.

For a moment there I thought you were trying to make a rational point but obviously its just mindless free campaigning on behalf of Microsoft again.

    • Mr Xrat

Still trying it with that FUD, eh, Xgimp?

Only dumpster fire here is the dead Shitbox brand. Enjoy paying $600 for a sub-4K console at the end of the gen.

    • Hvd

ill be play games while you are still waiting for your delayed AAA exclusives.you havent have any since uncharted 4 and still wont have any until next year some time…lol

i wonder what sony is going to show at thise3 same games that are 3-4 years out or show the 4-8 year game that are “coming out”…..lmao

the delay station where delays await……..and are still waiting…lmao

    • Mr Xrat

      Keep waiting.

    • Hvd

and waiting and waiting and waiting…lmao..

the ps4 the console with ZERO EXCLUSIVES…..LMAO

    • Mr Xrat

You were halfway there, Xgimp. 🙂

  • Andy Maas

If Microsoft prices the Scorpio higher it wont sell

    • Mark

Imo it’ll cost around the Xbox One launch model did, $400-$500 beans. More than 500 will hurt them big time tho. I think Phil’s smart tho…he’ll make it an affordable console, nothing like the NEO GEO. lol

    • Andy Maas

It would be stupid for Microsoft to take a risk with the Scorpio if they sell it higher Microsoft won’t be able to compete with Sony
      Sent from my iPad

    • Mark

So at what price do u think they need to stay under?

    • Andy Maas

      $430

    • Mark

That would be an amazing price. The question I have tho is, how freakin much will Microsoft have to pay AMD to manufacture it? We’ll see…

    • Andy Maas

If they price between 500-600 dollars Microsoft would fail

  • kma99

There is no hope for America if you need to have an interview to realize thr obvious.

    • Mark

Ahahaa. Good one. Anything, and I mean ANYTHING, that’s Scorpio related will be covered by media lol. Prolly cuz the Pro and Scorpio are and will be the hottest gaming products out, and sites will naturally see more clicks. Guess they gotta survive too…

  • crazy_black_man-

Get ready for your new $729 Xbox console that will suffer the same OS issues as the lower priced Xbox One S, and it will most likely suffer from the same horrendous fan noise issue that has so many unhappy people swapping back their purchased Xbox One S consoles at retailers for new ones, hoping to find one that doesn’t have a loud fan. The half a**ed Bluetooth implementation will probably be no better that what’s on the S model, the controllers will still be constantly desyncing as they do now, blah, blah, blah, whole new more expensive disaster, but with the same set of problems. Microsoft sucks at hardware. Period. Their hardware developers can’t even even hold a candle to what the devs at Sony are capable of. Gotta love Xbox news.

    • Andy Maas

      Not this scumbag again

    • crazy_black_man-

I may be crazy. But I ain’t crazy enough to keep wasting money on different types of the same failed Xbox One hardware, while hoping to find one that works as if it were made with the same strict quality control standards set by the PS4. An Xbox will always work like an Xbox. From the minute you first turn it on, the countdown ticker starts to it’s eventual hardware failure which will normally be just a few days outside of the warranty period. Xbox consoles have a shelf life like a loaf of bread. Good luck waiting on that Scorpio to be the first decent quality Xbox console ever made.

I been seeing videos of people who say their PS4 pro is burning is this true
      Sent from my iPad

    • crazy_black_man-

Is that your best reply? Seriously?

“I been seeing videos of people who say their PS4 pro is burning is this true”

Well, my investigative team has gone through your video viewing history over the last 6 months and we can finally confirm conclusively on 2 indisputable things. The first thing is that you’re gullible, and the second thing is that you obviously like to look at a lot of stupid sh** on the internet, and you often believe that what you’re seeing on these amatuerishly produced internet videos is real. That concludes this report, and there will be no further questions.

    • Andy Maas

I just asked a simple question

    • crazy_black_man-

And why would you ask me about something that YOUVE seen that I haven’t seen? Maybe the next time you might take the time to provide a link or two?

But hey, I’m sure you just gave Chaz his first big headline for tomorrow. Anything to help unseat the PS4 right now.

    • Andy Maas

What I look at on the internet is none of you’re team business

    • crazy_black_man-

LOL. Then why did you even bother to share it?

  • Mr Xrat

All that Xgimp denialism, all for nothing.

  • Riggybro

They can charge $600 and just continue with the “most powerful ever” “6TF” 4K” marketing because they are only competing in a duopoly. People will buy it without question thinking they are getting some bleeding edge tech on the cheap.
The average buyer won’t care that what they are really buying spec-wise will just be the latest version of 3 year old tech (comparative to when XB1 and PS4 came out).

  • JC

How the is this worthy of an article? “Our brand new console will be more expensive than the slim version of the old console.” #noshit
