The Elder Scrolls Online

Zenimax Online Studios’ The Elder Scrolls Online is now in a subscription-free stage with Tamriel Unlimited and it’s on track to release for PS4 and Xbox One. GamingBolt spoke to director Matt Firor about the frame rate for both current gen versions of MMORPG along with his thoughts on DirectX 12.

Firor stated that, “We’re getting close to launch now and we’re pretty confident we’ll have 30fps standard on both XB1 and PS4.” With regards to DirectX 12, which rolls out this holiday season, Firor said that, “As an old PC developer, we are accustomed to one thing over everything else: change. As such, we take the changes as they come – obviously DX integration is a staple of our livelihood, so we’ll do what we need to do. We’ll still need to support older DX versions on Vista, Win7, Win8(.1) and of course on 10 we’ll need to make sure we support DX12.”

The Elder Scrolls Online is out on June 9th for Xbox One and PS4. Stay tuned for our full interview with Matt in the coming days. Will you be picking it up? Let us know in the comments.

This game picked a really bad time to release on consoles… With The Witcher: Wild Hunt releasing at the end of May, and Batman: Arkham Knight releasing a week before. This game probably won’t do so well with sales.

    • David

I agree. I was thinking about picking this up but I’ve come to accept that the Witcher is going to take up most of my time.

    • NecroXM

I’ll probably done with both the Witcher 3 and Batman: AK by the time it releases… I just won’t have the money for it.

    • David

      That’s definitely understandable

    • Shane Irwin

That’s why you go to gamestop. If you return games before 30 days you get 40 bucks out of the trade in. So if you beat Witcher an batman just trade them in an get it

    • NecroXM

I don’t trade in or sell my games. Nor do I buy from GameStop.

    • Lee

Or people will just ignore it and worry about the elder scrolls 6, if that ever comes out

  • XanderZane41

Wonder if they will update the XB1 to DX12 after M$ releases the patch for it this fall? That game will run at 60fps on the XB1 if they do that.

    • John Nemesh

No it won’t. And they will not port it over to DX12. You will see DX12 being implemented ONLY for Xbox One exclusives…so not very often.

    • Your ignorance is impressive.

    • John Nemesh

Yours even more so. Developers have gone on record saying that they will not be using DX12 for multiplatform games.

    • jent

There is a huge incentive for all PC developers to implement DX12 in all PC games going forward.

    • Mark

He knows, just being a troll. EA and Eidos already stated they’ll be using DX12 in the near future. For anyone to think it’ll be just these 2 studios, is way off.

    • I’m Flat Out Right

There is even more of an incentive to use Vulcan. DX is a bad thing for the industry.

    • jent

I disagree about a greater incentive given the dominance of Windows in PC gaming. However you are also right in that developers should work hard to get Vulcan going to help out Linux and Mac gamers.

    • I’m Flat Out Right

Vulcan can run on Windows idiot. Vulcan can run on any platform, PS4, Windows PC, Linux, and Mac. Vulcan is a nonproprietary API that anyone can use.

Direct X is only available on Windows and Xbox. That is why Direct X needs to die. Anyone who defends Direct X is either an idiot or a Microsoft fanboy.

    • jent

Wow.I knew that about Vulcan. Calling me an idiot is totally uncaleed for. Stating facts about DirectX and windows does not make me a fanboy.

    • You Are Flat Out Wrong

John Derp suddenly defending Linux. Ayyyy lmao. Your attempt at dividing PC gamers is hilarious since real PC gamers are looking forward to both and your Sony shilling can’t hide you are flaseflagging, moron.

    • You Are Flat Out Wrong

Most developers will be using both, loser. Which will both have unique options and feature sets and drive competition between both which is good news for PC gamers and leaves Console losers like you in the dust.

PC Gamers win again. Conslow gamers lose again like the losers they are. :^)

    • kreator

      Why is that?

    • Mark

I’m gettin drained havin to correct u; stop spreading FUD. If u can’t stand when people lie about the PS4 or Sony, how do u think Xbox owners feel when ur doing this? Your disinfo can push away someone from a console they otherwise may enjoy alot. I’m sure u hate lies too John. Just be fair to people man. EA and Square’s pushing for DirectX 12 multiplats.

    • John Nemesh

Xbox owners probably feel like they were ripped off. And they should. It’s a crap console with fewer games and lower performance. DX12 is not going to solve that unless it can magically add shaders to the hardware. BTW, most of the features in DX12 are already in the low level API that Sony is using. Keep wishing for that “secret sauce” bub, I am sure it will work the way you think it will…

    • Mark

Instead of staying on topic, u jumped in the booth and came out the fanboy I knew u were lol. This was about wether or not we’ll see studios moving toward DirectX12 for multiplats, in which EA and Eidos are. Here’s a list of DX12 features coming for the X1; the API it shoulda launched with….like the PS4 has had. Stop saying “low level”, new API’s provide more performance saving features than just that. Stay where u belong and get bak to Bloodborne Sir Galahad. Lol

    • jnemesh

That guy is unabashedly pro xbox. His opinion os invalid.

    • You Are Flat Out Wrong

PS4 is also a crap console with low performance yet you damage control it with buyers remorse. You really are a pathetic damage controlling shill .

    • pie9999

You do know that the Xbox has more games than the ps4 right? It has more exsclusives too, and the good ones. I think the only big exclusive they have is second son,but that was a total let down in both graphics and story.also, the games on the ps4 are the sane graphic wise on the xbox as it is on the xbox, except for one game. And fps doesn’t matter after 24 as your eye can no longer see it. You are just a don’t fanboy. PC master race for the win!!!

    • jnemesh

Wrong. Listwar.com go look at t he facts.

    • Herbie Moore

“FPS doesn’t matter after 24 FPS” Yeah no, get out with that crap. Do some research next time; if you can only see 24 FPS, you’d have to be either visually impaired or elderly. Most gamers max out around 60FPS, while trained Air Force pilots can see up to 255 FPS.

    • bardock5151

Actually the only developer I’ve seen say anything like that was the Primal Carnage developer who is developing a game for the PS4 and PC.
      He’s hardly a good source.

Deus Ex Human Revolution is confirmed DX12 on PC, loser.

PC will be getting Vulkan and DX 12. POS4 stuck with its gimped hardware and lame GNMX API :^)

    • John Nemesh

You are not even worth a response.

    • You Are Flat Out Wrong

DX12 and Vulkan will send PC performance beyond what the consoles could ever do. DICE already said they are pushing for DX12 as a Min-Spec as soon as Holiday 2016.

You don’t have a response, loser. PC just wins. Keep crying about your 30FPS4. Why isn’t it running GTA V at 60FPS? :^)

    • Toastytodd411

Well one year forward, and hes been proven wrong? Dx12 boosts about 10%+ on Intel Cpu’s, and 15-40% increase on Amd cpus.. soo?..

      😛

    • John Nemesh

Enjoy your limited gaming experience in the Windows Store…

    • Toastytodd411

Considering your a Bern-out, I’ll forgive you lack of understanding, it isn’t the only subject you completely misinterpret.

    • Educate yourself. The Technical Director of the Frostbite Engine at the world’s largest Third-Party Publishing company wants it to become the standard for all Frostbite games, and all games in general, by holiday 2016. https://twitter.com/repi/status/585556554667163648

Framerate takes an arrow to the knee!

    • kreator

      Lol

  • I’m Flat Out Right

Xbox fan boys are really desperate. They’re obsessed with DX12. lol

    • bardock5151

You sure? You’re usually the most vocal about it.
Maybe you should try playing your own system.

    • This Guy

The gaming media is obsessed with it because it’s the new gaming buzzword along with 1080p. Put it in the title of an article and clicks are guaranteed. I could care less about it. I like the games as they are now, if it helps great, if not oh well.

    • You Are Flat Out Wrong

John Derp you are just as obsessed with downplaying it and the massive performance gains it will have on PC along with Vulkan.

Superior PC gamers will have a choice. POS4 stuck with its 900P and 30FPS future

Oh by the way, GTA V on PC outsold Bloodborne in a day :^)

    • Don’t Be A Mong

Oh my god a well established game outsold an unknown newcomer on the first day? WOW! Gaming in general as bottomed out. Try not to be an uneducated mong about it.

    • jnemesh

Shame they wont have any AAA games to play, DX12 or not, until october!

  • I’m Flat Out Right

Microsoft fan boys are going to be heartbroken when they find out DX12 will do absolutely nothing to save their dying Xbox One.

Simply portting ESO to DX12 isn’t going to improve performance. Games need to be built from the ground up to take advantage of DX12. That means we won’t even be seeing games that take advantage of DX12 until late 2016 or 2017.

Direct X needs to die because it is a proprietary API that Microsoft uses to keep sheeple on Windows and Xbox.

If Vulcan becomes standard, Microsoft is in trouble. Vulcan isn’t locked in to Microsoft’s ecosystem.

    • This Guy

MS has said it won’t make much of a difference anyway. It’s the gaming media constantly pushing it and confusing people.

    • You Are Flat Out Wrong

If Vulkan becomes standard, it will never help the POS4 and Sony will be dead :^)

    • Guest

      You’re allowed to dream, I suppose…

  • Guest

The final bastardization of TES… RIP

    • Shane Irwin

An why is that? Oh your one of those people that are obsessed with TES staying single player huh?

    • Guest

I’m one of those people who recognizes that multiplayer doesn’t make everything better by default…Look what happened to KOTOR, prime example.

Call me a purist, but TES has been going downhill since Morrowind. Removing complexity/depth, adding generic features like crafting and skill trees, grooming people for an MMO version. Some games are just meant to be solo.

  • Shane Irwin

People put too much stock in fps. The only time you will notice fps is in games like gta v. Running around in a zentorno at full speed. I highly doubt anyone is going to be moving that fast in eso.

    • Herbie Moore

This has to be the stupidest thing I have seen in quite a while. Unfortunately, some of us can actually tell the difference between 20, 30, and 60 FPS. FPS isn’t completely based on how fast you’re going, you clearly don’t know the slightest thing about what you’re saying.

  • ink_knight

Truth is, if you enjoyed Skyrim, and other es series games on console, then you will enjoy eso on console, and the game will look and play well good, I don’t need it to have super high graphics and all the way my PC runs it. Secondly for me, ALL of the pc people I played with… None of them no longer play, and I have nearly 100 on friend list, been playing since beta and release. However 8 of my friends, and some others I have talked to about the game, in a gamestore or work, don’t have the time or know how to do their PC up like I have, and have been waiting for console release.

I will also be on console, since none of the people I play with on PC are on anymore
