3. Transformer Chassis – Transformers: War for Cybertron
In case you haven’t noticed yet, I’m a real sucker for anything that transforms. It makes sense then that the Transformers would get a big shout on this list. Though they themselves are robots, they must have some kind of armour plating that adorns them .The fact that this armour can transform into cars and planes along with the Transformer is just pure insanity crystallized into robot form. Nerdgasms all around.
2. The Chozo Power Suit – Metroid
In terms of influence Samus Aran’s Varia Suit is off the charts. As one of the first properly hardcore female protagonist, Samus’ armour has become instantly recognisable to any gamer worth their salt. It subverts the usual stereotypes that female apparel usually falls into in games, and makes Samus look like the mut’s nuts as she hunts her various bounties. It’s also impressively practical, being easily upgradeable due to its Chozo origins. Gotta love the old alien influence.
1. The Nano Suit – Crysis
There’s just something about that husky voice. Without wishing to sound too homo-erotic, there’s something very appealing about how the Nano Suit says “cloak engaged.” Maybe it’s because you hear it so often. Creepy voices in your head aside, Crysis’ Nano Suit is a totally bad ass piece of apparel that is 0% BS. You want armour? Bam, armour mode. Invisibility? You got it. Tactical options? Who needs those, you’ve got power mode!
Honourable mentions include: Mega Man’s suit, Snake’s sneaking suit from Metal Gear Solid 1 and the Dragovia armour in Dragon Quest 8.
