Ubisoft's Assassins Creed series can be compared to a sine wave. The series started with a promising but mediocre game in 2007 and then rose to greatness in 2009 with Assassin's Creed 2, undoubtedly the pinnacle of the franchise. Assassin's Creed 3 was not a ground shattering game but due to Ubisoft's clever marketing tactics, the game sold 3.5 million in just the first week. More sales means more money and more Assassin's Creed games. A new entry has already been announced for FY 2014.
