Crytek have been pioneers of the graphical side of gaming ever since Far Cry launched in 2004, but it was 2007’s Crysis that really showed us how visuals were meant to be done. The next evolution for Crytek is CryEngine 3, an engine that will undoubtedly power a large majority of next generation’s first person titles.

Unreal Engine is the cornerstone of our current generation, working in the background on countless blockbuster titles to ensure the high level of production values that we have since become accustomed to. Augmented Reality Gameplay
We’re already starting to see this type of camera based gaming, but it will no doubt start to pick up even more speed as we move into the the next generation of gaming. The above video demonstrates the augmented reality features of the Nintendo 3DS, features we can only hope will be capitalised upon and used in other scenarios in the future.
Virtual Reality Showcase
Nintendo’s shocking foray into virtual reality gaming with the Virtua Boy in 1995 has no doubt made people a little gun shy, but it’s still one of those ideas that has a lot of potential. With the recent slew of motion controllers and 3D technologies putting people into their games like never before, we can only hope full virtual reality gaming will become a possibility in the coming years.
