9. Parametric Skeletal Animation
One of the more technical features to arise on this list, skeletal animation is one of the things that could really go above and beyond on next gen systems. Parametric animations were first described by Valve as when pre-recorded animations are matched to movements in the animation rigs of characters. This technique can supposedly use up to sixteen pre-recorded animations on a single character, but current gen games barely use five simultaneous animations. Needless to say, there's plenty of room for improvement.
