6. The Indie Explosion
Gaming has always been dominated by blockbuster titles and massive budgets, but the seventh generation saw a shift to smaller titles with a greater focus on creativity. Braid, Super Meat Boy and a tonne of Cave Story ports cemented the indie game as a new force in the industry. Not all indie games are to the same standard, but the rise of the independent studio has led to an impressive diversity of titles in the previous few years.
