3. Shadow of the Colossus
When you have a game that is entirely based around a man and his trusty steed, the horse better be damn impressive. Thankfully for Shadow of the Colossus, Agro met the mark. One colossus battle in particular stands out, forcing you to chase the flying fiend down on horseback. It was intense, challenging and wholly satisfying when it was over. Just like all good horse chases should be. Skip to 3:15 for the start of the fight.
2. Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones
The Two Thrones was the last really good Prince of Persia outing, and it was bolstered by a tonne of solid set pieces. One such scenario sees the prince in an intense chariot race against some sand warriors with the same idea. Ramming a chariot off the narrow track was just damn satisfying, and the section was well balanced so as not to be too frustrating. A stand out moment in a stand out title.
1. Assassin’s Creed 2
Assassin’s Creed 1 was a good idea, but it became far too repetitive to be considered a classic. It’s sequel, on the other hand, was able to construct a gripping narrative with some interesting set pieces. A horse and carriage escape intersects the narrative at one point, forcing you to swerve and dodge to unbalance any foes who attempt to board your carriage. It’s frantic, fast and a refreshing break from the usual assassination gig. This is why horses were made.
