7. Halo: Reach
It’s impressive how much this trailer is able to convey with absolutely no speech throughout. The sparse open nature of the clip helps fill in the gaps of how Spartans are made. It looks pretty bad ass and got us all hot and bothered for the launch of Halo: Reach (not that we needed any convincing mind you.)
6. Kirby’s Adventure
Kirby has lost a lot of credibility with gamers as of late. Aside from the amazing Canvas Curse (or Power Paintbrush as it was known in Europe) on DS, the old pink blob hasn’t had a lot going for him recently. If he continued to be marketed like this, it would’ve been a different story. One part cute, one part bad mofo and seven parts awesome. This is the Kirby we all like to remember.
5. Animal Crossing
Not only is the Animal Crossing ad series a humorous spoof on the absurdity of reality TV, it also is able to poke fun at the game it is promoting. Highlighting the menial tasks that make up Animal Crossing might not help with its sales, but it makes for some good viewing. The costumes deserve special credit for their accuracy. They’re eerily similar looking to the game’s characters, which are creepy enough as it is.
4. Sega Net
Is America really like this commercial? Feigned cultural ignorance aside, I can definitely confirm that online gaming is realistically depicted. Sony and Microsoft blow off a lot of steam about user connectivity and multimedia experiences but, let’s be honest here, we’re all playing games online so we can school other players who are less skilled than us. With explosions, stereotypes galore and a freaky ass shouting crow at the end, this trailer ticks all the boxes.
