Releases too Early:
Online games can sometimes be in development for years, costing millions of dollars. The longer they take in development the more it’s going to cost. Sometimes these games are released early and developers patch them up quickly after their release. The problem is that gamers will not recommend these titles to their friends if they appear half-baked. Plenty of games have fallen for this trap in the past.
Star Wars: The Old Republic, Brink and Rift come to mind regarding this particular topic. It’s easy to fix things on the fly and most people understand that a new game is not going to be perfect, but when there are clear problems with it on launch, the smart thing to do is hold out another few months and fix the issues. It may cost more money, but the company isn’t going to make as much in the long run if something is released early, nor is it going to be a popular game.
