Region Free Gaming
Region locks are the worst thing ever. It was more annoying in years gone by, when translation was a lengthy process that delayed releases in the western world by months at a time, but it still sucks even today. More so for the games that never make it out of Japan and America. As more and more game sales occur digitally now, it makes very little sense to keep everything region locked (outside of publishing rights). Here’s hoping streaming will minimise the amount of delays between releases in different regions.
Second Screen Gaming
The Wii U has introduced second screen gaming to the masses, albeit with mixed reactions from the public. That said, it’s something that could easily be done with equipment you already have alongside your PS4. Using the Vita as a second screen is certainly a-go, but the possibilities of using Gaikai’s streaming wizardry to get phones and tablets involved as well is a pipe-dream with enough of a chance to be worth considering.
Clip Streaming
As if we couldn’t end on a more pedestrian note, Gaikai’s streaming knowledge is probably going to be a part of that all important “share” button now gracing the DualShock 4 controller. Though game clips can be shared, as it were, you can also apparently stream videos of your gaming exploits directly to those on your friends list. It might not specifically be a Gaikai area, what with it being video rather than games, but it’s still pretty cool.
