NieR: Automata has garnered tons of critical acclaim for its story-telling, characters and action. The sheer number of endings and secrets also drew plenty of attention but one of its craziest wouldn’t be discovered until nearly four years later. Lance McDonald, known for modding games and datamining, discovered a cheat code after hundreds of hours of reverse-engineering that allowed one to skip straight to the end after beating the first boss. And by that, we mean the final ending where players battle the Credits and can sacrifice their save data to ensure others have a chance. Director Yoko Taro would later confirm the cheat’s legitimacy on Twitter while the Japanese Twitter account for NieR said, “It seems that the last secret has been discovered.”
