The Forest

It’s hard to really pin down the kind of horror that The Forest encapsulates. Atmospheric, psychological, jump-scares, body horror – it’s just a lot to deal with. Taking place in a forested peninsula, it sees protagonist Eric LeBlanc trying to save his son Timmy. Building up a base and fortifications with nearby resources while also struggling to survive, LeBlanc must also deal with a tribe of mutant cannibals. Are they the enemy? Is he the true threat? Whatever the case may be, the picturesque woods can quickly turn distressing. You could spend a good portion of the game hunting and building up a shelter while crafting traps and weapons but there are also plenty of terrifying secrets, like the caves, to explore (if you dare).
