AI TRICKS
Some games employ this trick better than others. Rocksteady’s Arkham games have been know for making you feel like an absolute badass (or as the meme goes, really making you FEEL like Batman), but there’s a lot going on behind-the-scenes to make it happen. During stealth, enemies are purposefully designed to be not very aware of their surroundings (such as never being able to do an about turn, thus allowing you to sneak up on them), while during combat, the game makes sure they don’t all swarm you at once.
Of course, the Arkham games are a good example of AI that is intentionally stupid (to put it bluntly). On the other end of the spectrum would be, when during combat, enemies would just wait around for you to kill one of their comrades and only take you on one at a time.
