28. Minecraft
Not a lot of games could’ve gotten by on simple exploration, gathering resources, crafting, and combat along with free reign to do and build whatever you wished – until Minecraft. This game had no specific goals; rather it allowed the player a large amount of freedom in choosing how to play the game. That’s it. It has since grown to be one of the biggest indie successes of all time, even creating a whole new genre of sandbox games.
