A very significant plot point of Metal Gear Solid 5 revolves around the idea that Venom Snake very clearly is meant to evoke the image of series villain Big Boss, particularly with the hairstyle and the trademark eyepatch. The opening theme song for Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain, contains lyrics that are easily connected to the body double experiences of an important character. Though it could be said that even the title “The Phantom Pain” is an intentional and appropriate choice in naming.
