Sony

Jak and Daxter

Last Installment: Jak and Daxter: The Lost Frontier
System: PSP and PS2
Release: 2009
Chances of Revival: High

Fans had been demanding a new Jak and Daxter title ever since the third Jak game. Sure, we got Daxter, and it was great, but it more more of a spinoff and didn’t exactly feel like a Jak game. And then we got The Lost Frontier. In hindsight, it would have been better if Sony had just left the series alone at that time, because The Lost Frontier was absolutely horrible. But now that Sony desperately needs to build a system selling IP, they have to give everything all they’ve got. Hopefully, they will be releasing a true Jak and Daxter sequel soon, and hopefully, it won’t suck.

Syphon Filter

Last Installment: Syphon Filter: Logan’s Shadow
System: PSP and PS2
Release: 2007
Chances of Revival: High

Rumours of a fourth Syphon Filter game have been circulating around the scene for a long time now, but Sony hasn’t done squat to act on them. And that’s very surprising, really. Because Syphon Filter delivered two excellent games on the PSP this gen, and dare I say, they were probably the highlight of the system’s software library. But now that Bend is done with Uncharted: Golden Abyss, and because the PS Vita is in desperate need of games right now, Sony will probably task the talented studio with making a new Syphon Filter game for their new handheld.

The Getaway

Last Installment: The Getaway: Black Monday
System: PS2
Release: 2004
Chances of Revival: Moderate

The Getaway is one of the lesser known Sony franchises, and I have no idea why that is the case. While not excessively successful in either the commercial or the critical department, The Getaway was indeed a fan favourite series and always delivered quality games. A few years ago, the third Getaway title was sadly cancelled, but all hope is not yet lost- the game’s development has been “on hold” for a long time. Hopefully (and probably), Sony will release The Getaway 3 as one of the swan songs for the PS3. Fingers crossed!

PaRappa The Rapper

Last Installment: PaRappa the Rapper 2
System: PS2
Release: 2001
Chances of Revival: Minimal

Okay, this probably isn’t one of the better franchises Sony has come up with in its time as a games developer, but it was once a fan favourite. Not unanimously, no, but PaRappa the Rapper had a following once. Then Sony pooped all over the franchise and let it rot in hell. It was understandable, given that it brought them no success, but seeing the franchise return would definitely feel good. It would appeal to both, the casual crowd and the hardcore crowd. And having a PaRappa game on the Vita might just boost the system’s sales… Something has to.
