Telltale Games’ Mismanagement
Much has been said about the fall of Telltale Games, with the studio announcing its closure in September 2018. Several developers on titles like The Wolf Among Us: Season Two, Game of Thrones: Season Two and Stranger Things were subsequently let go. However, prior to this, employees complained of crunch and how the constant drive to release episodes for new games resulted in poor quality and limited creativity. It also didn’t help that upper management including CEO Kevin Bruner constantly demanded reworks and rewrites, sticking to the same format that made The Walking Dead successful while doing nothing to retain talented but disgruntled employees. Bruner stepped down in 2017 and Telltale restructured but the studio still faced closure after losing its last big investor.
