Middle Earth: Shadow of War
From its initial reveal, Monolith Productions’ Middle Earth: Shadow of War was a slam-dunk. More moves, bigger battles, building an army, multi-tiered assaults – it seemed like a dream come true. Then, of course, it was mucked about with numerous shady practices. From Legendary Gear and Followers in loot boxes to segmented DLC, it was looking more and more like Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment wanted to monetize the heck out of this. Given the “loot chest” systems seen in games like Injustice 2 and Mortal Kombat 11, it’s perhaps not all that surprising. Thankfully, the real money store was removed in a subsequent update.
