Sony, Nintendo, Microsoft. For three console generations – soon to be four – these are the three big powerhouses that have dominated the gaming industry as the first party console developers. And though Sony has been around since the 90s, and Nintendo since the 80s, Microsoft entered the scene in 2001 with the Xbox and Halo: Combat Evolved. They immediately made a statement upon arrival, and established themselves as a force to be reckoned with, before doubling down on that even further with the early years of the Xbox 360.
