The action adventure genre is probably the most popular of gaming genres across any and all platforms. It’s not too surprising either, with all the options that this could entail, from run and gun action, to exploration and even aspects of horror and drama. The action-adventure genre is certainly something that most gamers can enjoy. The selection of titles also give us plenty of options and exposure to what we may enjoy, or something that may pique our interest as something new and exciting.

This adventurous feel goes all the way back to platformers, and the kinds of games that have had us rescuing the kidnapped princess, or battling through hordes of enemies to save your loved ones, even fighting as weird toad mutants. It certainly hasn’t stopped there though, and now as 2014 is almost upon us, there will be more choices in the wide and far reaching rainbow of the action adventure genre than before.

The Last Guardian:

This game, from Sony Computer Entertainment is actually in the large, gray abyss of “To Be Announced” titles, regarding it’s release. We can hope that we’ll be getting our hands on this little beauty soon. The game has a very similar and familiar design and feel to Shadow of Colossus, a old favorite for many Sony fans out there. The Last Guardian puts us in the shoes of a young boy, with what appears to be a very large, yet friendly monster that more than slightly resembles a mixture of a bird of prey and man’s best friend.

Clifford, the Big Red Raptor, if you will. The bond that the character and presumably, the “Last Guardian,” share is definitely something you’d see from a boy and his dog. This classic relationship that can be found in entertainment from just about any time in the past will be exciting to explore in this light. While many of us have been waiting for this title for a very long time, hopefully the spiritual successor to ICO and Shadow of the Colossus will be coming to us this generation, and more to the point in 2014.
